Story
Lilah Love's latest case is making her head spin. It’s a string of brutal assassinations carried out across the country, each tied to a mysterious tattoo. Body by body, she’s followed the clues all the way back to her hometown. And every step of the way, the killer has been following her. Beneath the glamour of the privileged Hamptons community is a secret long buried but never forgotten. It’s bigger than Lilah. It’s powerful enough to escape the reach of the FBI. And it’s more personal than anyone can imagine. Because it’s hiding in Lilah’s own past.

Story
Summer is busy season for Mackenzie "Mac" Almeida's bicycle shop, nestled in the quaint, seaside hamlet of Westham, Massachusetts. She's expecting an influx of tourists at Mac's Bikes; instead she discovers the body of Jake Lacey. Mac can't imagine anyone stabbing the down-on-his-luck handyman. However, the authorities seem to think Mac is a strong suspect after she was spotted arguing with Jake just hours before his death. Mac knows she didn't do it, but she does recognize the weapon - her brother Derrick's fishing knife.

I'm Hailey Anne Monroe. I’m 28 years old. An artist, who found her muse on the canvas because I wasn’t allowed to have friends or even keep a journal. And yes, if you haven’t guessed by now, I’m that Hailey Anne Monroe, daughter to Thomas Frank Monroe, the man who was a half-percentage point from becoming president of the United States. If you were able to ask him, he’d probably tell you that I was the half point. But you can’t ask him, and he can’t tell you. He’s dead. They’re all dead, and now, I can speak.

There are those moments in life that are provocative in their very existences, that embed in our minds forever, and, sometimes, our very souls. They change us, mold us, maybe even save us. But some are darker, dangerous. If we allow them to, they control us. Seduce us. Quite possibly even destroy us. The moment I walked into Sonoma's Reid Winter Winery and Vineyard and made eye contact with Faith Winter for the first time was one of those moments.

One word, two, three, a story in a poem, a secret that only Detective Samantha Jazz can solve. Because, he’s writing this story for her.

Publisher's Summary
New York Times best-selling author Lisa Renee Jones presents the first part of her heart-pounding thriller series of a woman's secrets - and a past that's about to come out of hiding....
As an FBI profiler, it's Lilah Love's job to think like a killer. And she is very good at her job. When a series of murders surface - the victims all stripped naked and shot in the head - Lilah's instincts tell her it's the work of an assassin, not a serial killer. But when the case takes her back to her hometown in the Hamptons and a mysterious but unmistakable connection to her own life, all her assumptions are shaken to the core.
Thrust into a troubled past she's tried to shut the door on, Lilah's back in the town where her father is mayor, her brother is police chief, and she has an intimate history with the local crime lord's son, Kane Mendez. The two share a devastating secret, and only Kane understands Lilah's own darkest impulses. As more corpses surface, so does a series of anonymous notes to Lilah, threatening to expose her. Is the killer someone in her own circle? And is she the next target?

Strong woman don’t need to be nasty!
I found the main character to be a bit over the top with nastiness. Strong women are strong because they persevere through challenging situations and come out of it a little stronger. To portray a woman as nasty, offended by everything male, and see’s every gesture as an insult is not an accurate portrayal at all. To me that depicts weakness, insecurity, and a massive misunderstanding of the true meaning of strength.

5 Crazy Ass Must Listen Stars!!!!!
Two people made this story. First, Lisa Renee Jones with her superb writing and storylines that get your mind spinning. And second, Grace Grant with her amazing narration.
LRJ continually writes stories that just draw me in. I'm not one to veer toward a murder mystery but when I saw that LRJ newest release was available via Romance Package, I snatched this audio treat right up and dove right in. All I had to see was "Lisa Renee Jones" and "new release" and I was all over it. Then imagine my delight when I saw Grace Grant was the narrator. She has quickly become a favorite of mine with her work on the Mount Trilogy and Savage Trilogy by Meghan March. She just has this was of drawing you in to the story, making you so damn comfortable, and having you ignore the outside world. She brings the characters to life and performs the narration in such a way that it feels like your tossed in that world. This was no different.
Lilah Love is wrapped up in some crazy stuff. So many questions. So many twists. None of my predictions have panned out so LRJ is keeping me on my toes.
I'm eager to get my hands on Murder Girl next. I just wish it was sooner than July. Oh well, I'll be listening to this again to hold me over until then.

end of a paragraph, or end of chapter...
While I enjoy many book series, I think that it is pure greed that ends a book in the manner in which this one ended. Why can't you at least finish a scene?
I won't be purchasing any other titles from this author.

imply vs infer
okay. I know it is a pet peeve but CRAP! I am less than half way through this and the author has used INFER rather tham IMPLY 3 times. uggh! Seriously? I know this isn't great literature here but is it too much to ask for the correct use of these words? I have implied that this is drivel and you would correctly infer from my statement.

Disappointing
I usually enjoy books that are in a series. Not in this case. There is no resolution to the story line. NONE. I actually thought that my program had accidently skipped to the end of the book. But no, it just ended without any resolution to the story. I had always enjoyed this particular author but after this I will be more cautious. To me a series of books may be related by the hero or heroine but each book contains a story with a resolution. This definitely is not the case here. The story itself was a bit disjointed as well. It skipped around and started and stopped as if chunks were cut out. There are a lot of characters without enough details to tell them apart. Not happy at all.

Loved it!
This was my first time reading this author and first time listening to a performance by this narrator. Story first: LOVED it!!!!! I didn’t want it to end was sucked in to the sassy of Lilah and the way she thinks and interacts. She is 100% fully developed and it was easy to picture all aspects of her throughout the entire story. So much so that even her nightmares could be felt! Lisa Renee Jones has instantly become a go to author for me and I am starting a new listen tomorrow!
New narrator for me as well, and I limited my stars to 4 because it too a few chapters to adjust to the style of her male voices. It seemed to take a while to have the male voice(s) seem authentic and real. As for Lilah, she was brilliant and became her immediately and once I adjusted to her take narrating male voices I became fully immersed in the story she was telling. She will be added to my list of narrators to try again without a doubt!

Too fast paced, too naive and cut in the middle of the story
It was too fast paced for me. Narrator was racing with the text.
Story was really naive and unrealistic. A bit too girlish for me.
The worst part was that the story was cut and ended in the middle. Why??? It is not a TV series. And I'm not going to buy next part of the book just because author wanted to sell more.
