must read for lovers of true crime

I was gifted this audio ARC from the author/ Narrator for a honest and unbiased review.
Gary C King did a great job researching this book of 18 true crimes from the 80's to 90'sin which all cases were solved. The case descriptions are complete and extremely interesting.
Daniela Orders's narrating was a bit too slow had to speed it up. But in saying that he was ok. Would like to hear another book by him to see if there is a difference.
I truly recommend this book to anyone who loves true crime

I Like How Mr King tells these stories

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, to my True Crime reading friends. The true stories are presented succinctly yet thoroughly from the time each crime occurs through trials and even the aftermaths.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jonette Peery the victim in the first reported story in this audio book. I thought of her throughout my listen. She stuck with me. Her story.

What about Dan Orders’s performance did you like?

Competent. More presentations of the who, what, where. He wasn't dramatic.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just discouraged by what some people use as their lame reasons for taking a life. Encouraged by the surviving families perseverence and by law enforcement and legal people doing their jobs day in and day out.

Thanks for the opportunity to review it!

This review copy audiobook was provided by the author at no cost. Which I can only assume was voluntary on their part. I am happy to give my honest review of it. I think I'm suppose to mention how reviewing this was voluntary on my part too.

For true crimes readers, this one is great.

I liked this audiobook, not only were these twelve cases well written and explained, most of them happened in the Pacific northwest, but I was also in my late teens and early twenties when a couple of these cases, and I remember them. I received this audiobook for free and voluntarily reviewed.

Riveting and Powerful

Another superb True Crime story, or compilation of stories. Mr. King writes clearly and cleanly, demonstrating the senseless and depraved capabilities of mankind. We can be wretched, cruel monsters. Thankfully we’ve got many, many more brave and devoted policemen and citizens ready to protect communities.

mix of crime stories

Any additional comments?

I reviewed a different Gary C. King crime collection in the past, and my review is very similar between that one and this collection, 'Murder Most Foul'.

There are 18 stories in this collection and, like any reader, I enjoyed some stories more than others. In this collection, my favourites were "A Bedroom Clue Nailed the Kinky Killer", "The Sex Crazed Knife Wielder Who Stalked His Boys", "24 Hours of Screaming Hell", "He's Killing Me! He's Cutting My Throat", "Carnage at the University of Iowa", and "Four Blasted in Pistol Blood Bath". I say that these were my favourites, not necessarily because of the nature of the crimes. The crimes in this collection are all horrific and I'm glad that the criminals were caught and punished. The reason why I enjoyed these stories the most is because the author was able to help me understand what happened, in terms of backgrounds of the victims and killers, the motives for the crimes, and the justice that was dealt to the criminals. For some of the crimes in this collection, one of the most obvious questions that I ask myself is, "What kind of person would do this??" or "What was the motive??" or "Was justice served?". Those questions were typically answered in the stories that I liked best. If those questions weren't answered satisfactorily for me, they didn't make it to my list of favourite stories in the collection.

I didn't give this audiobook more stars because I still think that the story titles are cheesy and sensational. I don't listen to the stories because they're sensational, I listen to them because my curious mind wants to understand the circumstances and motives of crimes committed by evil people. Human nature is endlessly fascinating, and how society deals with criminals in their communities is also interesting to me. If you want to hold a well-considered opinion about the death penalty, you need to understand crimes like the ones described in this book and think about what the effective punishment would be for these perpetrators. These stories are less sensational for me, and more thought-provoking about society and human nature.

I'm ambivalent about the narrator. He has the right tone of voice for this type of book, but his pacing is foot-dragging slow. I can't listen to this narrator unless I have the playback speed jacked up to 1.5x or 2x the regular playing speed. When I increase the playback speed, though, he's fine and I have no complaints!

I provided this opinion in exchange for a complimentary copy of the audiobook from the author, narrator, or publisher.

Another great true crime book by Gary C. King

What did you love best about Murder Most Foul?

I have listened to a couple true crime books by Gary C. King and I would have to say this one if my favorite. .

What did you like best about this story?

All of the cases are interesting and the detail is good. He didn't leave me wondering about anything as is sometimes the case with true crime books.

What about Dan Orders’s performance did you like?

I have listened to Dan Orders narrate a couple other books and I'm never disappointed by his work. He has a great voice for true crime.

A collection of true life crime stories. Some of these I remember from when they happened and a few were new to me.

The narration was well done. Dan Orders gave a chilling reading.
