A bit convoluted, but I love Mrs Pollifax

This plot was a bit convoluted, but anyway these adventures require a suspension of rationality. I mean, I couldn’t go for the number of hours without a toilet as happens in these stories, never mind all the other feats! But Rosenblat’s reading and the delightful energy of Mrs Pollifax make all of these stories a delight.

In love with Mrs Polifax

Only recently discovered these wonderful books. Love Barbara Rosenblat’s performances in each book. Her characterizations are perfect for the author’s priceless material.

Not up to the rest of the series!

I am a major Mrs Pollifax fan but this one did not live up to its predecessors in the series. Only Barbara Rosenblatt’s usual sterling narration saved it. The story was slow, rambling and lacking in the usual action-filled excitement of Mrs Pollifax’s usual adventures. The ending was predictable and to be honest I was just glad it was over. I fervently hope the next book will be back to previous standards.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

The entire series was excellent! I'll definitely read more by Dorothy Gilman!

The narrator is probably the best I've heard, providing numerous voices and accents!

Only Two More Left in the Series!!

I had apprehensions reading this book initially because of the title. I read it as a lion was going to be killed. Being an animal activist this would bother me. Rest assure no animal were hurt, only people!

To me one of my favorite scenes in this book was the ending with Cyrus finally joining Emily in Africa after missing the entire adventure. He was met at the airport with the local Piccadilly Popcorn rock band playing “When the Saints Come Marching In”.

In the last two books (numbers 11 and 12) we find Mrs. Pollifax on an adventure that does not include the CIA. It is interesting to see how our protagonist has evolved throughout this series such as her signature attire of gaudy floral hats are no longer an item.
Although I am saddened to know that there are just a few more books in this series, I am happy to have found and read them.

Some interesting facts about the Mrs. Pollifax series:
~ The first book, “the Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax”, was published in 1966.

- The series ran a span of 34 years until the last book “Mrs. Pollifax Unveiled” was published in 2/2000.

- The author past away in 2014 at the age of 98.

Another good one!!!

I have adored each of the books in this series so very much!! I have only one problem with this book: the narration is excellent but in production, it sounds like they forgot to level the volume! It goes from soft and hard to hear very suddenly to so loud that it practically jolts my blood pressure up high from being startled. I listened to this one in bed whilst recuperating from a cold so it was quite irritating. The Katie character was especially petulant and annoying.

Another great Mrs. Pollifax story

What did you love best about Mrs. Pollifax and the Lion Killer?

The character of Mrs. Pollifax is what keeps my attention in this series. She is interesting, inquisitive and engaging. Dorothy Gilman keeps all of the side characters interesting also.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I honestly did not have any idea who the villain was until it was revealed at the end of the book.

What about Barbara Rosenblat’s performance did you like?

Barbara Rosenblat reads very well and does different voices and accents superbly.

Any additional comments?

I think it is best to listen to the preceding book. Mrs. Pollifax Pursued because the characters from the last book carryover into this book and you will understand what is going on better.
