Publisher's summary

“It was Women's Hour who suggested I keep a diary. They said it was good for mental health, and I must say I did feel much less frazzled after writing everything down yesterday. The frustrations were all still there, but somehow smoothed out - as if by a really good steam iron.”

Mrs Narwhal is overwhelmed. Her husband, Hugh, is unkind and unhappy - working every hour at a job he hates to save the ancestral home he never wanted. Then there’s Hugh’s sister, Rose, who’s spurned her one true love, and ricochets from crisis to crisis; and not to mention two small boys to bring up safely in a house that could crumble around their ears at any moment....

When Hugh's pride receives a fatal blow, and he walks out, Mrs Narwhal is plunged into a crisis of both heart and home. With help from Rose she sets out to save the house her husband couldn't. But can she save her marriage? And does she really want Hugh back?

Funny, charming, and moving, Mrs Narwhal’s Diary is an irresistible story which will enchant and delight its listeners.

Surprisingly good!

Picked up this book because I like the narrator and it was free. I ended up smiling through the whole thing. The inner workings of the main character’s mind are hilarious and her ability to remain upbeat while her whole life spins out of control kept the story from falling into a melancholy mess. Loved it and hope the author publishes more soon.

Surprisingly enthralling

What a beautiful, entertaining, true to life story. audible has been recommending this book to me for months, and I finally took the bait. so glad I did. This is the story of a family in crisis, trying to find innovative solutions to their problems individually and together. so many individual things here could happen to any one of us, with some change of geography. But hearing the struggle, structured as it is in plain, honest, day-to-day portraits, makes it relatable even in its uniqueness. The reader absolutely has a handle on every character, and made me laugh out loud on many occasions. This is a beautiful, written novel that will make you question important things, and celebrate good things. Brava.
