Publisher's summary

On a return trip from Germany, Monk and Natalie stop over in Paris. They visit the catacombs - a vast, underground cavern in the center of the city, lined with millions of ancient human bones. Monk picks up a skull and announces that this person was murdered - by a modern weapon made in the last few years. He thinks someone hid a recent murder victim among the old bones.

As Monk starts to investigate the crime, he uncovers another murder that involves a society of "dumpster divers," people who live commerce-free off the waste of society. It might just be the last straw in Monk's visit to Paris.

Very entertaining

I am a fan of the show Monk, and found the concept of a Monk novel enjoyable; it reminds me of a Gregory Maguire novel.

The story has a good rythm and pace in which envisionment of the characters and situations are clear.
The Humor in the book is very "Monk-ish".
I did notice, however, notice that the author has an obsession with the word "said" in "he said, she said" this made it a little hard to endure those talk back moments.
A better narrator could have been chosen, even with the volume on my Ipod on a lower setting her voice was a little harsh in a "third grade teacher scolding" type of way. I dealt with the narrator and listened to the whole novel. (try listening to the sample before purchasing)

Overall this is a must for Monk fans.

I enjoyed the novel very much and hope that Audible will carry more audio book versions of the Monk novels.

Fun, well-written mystery

I love the Monk series. It's fun, entertaining, and clean. Lee Goldberg writes so well that these books can stand alone or work as an addendum for those who enjoyed the television series.

Mr. Monk is Miserable finds Mr. Monk in France with Natalie. Naturally, he solves a murder while attempting to clean up Paris. This is a great book if you need a good laugh or if you just want something light to take your mind off of things.

Laura Hicks did a decent job with the narration, but I thought it could have been better. That may be unfair of me, as I tend to compare her voice with that of the television character's voice. I found her voice a little grating and sing-songish at times, especially when it came to performing the voices of other characters.

Overall, I really enjoyed this one. May Lee Goldberg write books forever!

Getting my Monk fix.

the narrator did a great job, however, this being the first book I read since seeing the television show... it took me a few chapters to be able to combine the voice and the character into a reconizable character and not be distracted by difference. It makes me happy to be able to read about Monk so many years after the show ended.

Start to finish laughs!

Great story with the usual nonstop laughs that is Mr.Monk. Between the foreign location and the multiple murders, the story and characters keep you hooked until the end!

Monk finds murder again

I enjoyed the book and learning about Paris catechomes. Monk as usual encounters murder where ever he goes. The reader did a good job znd even sang Dish's song. If you like Monk you will enjoy the story.

Narrator, meh.

I found the narrator to be a bit harsh. I prefer the other narrator. I wonder why she didn’t record all the books. The story was hilarious, as usual.

Loved the narration

The narrator had such a great voice and her french pronunciations made me feel like I were there.

Mr. Monk and the Audiobook

I must first confess a bias... I wrote the book and was delighted to learn that Laura Hicks performed the reading. She does a great job channeling Natalie and capturing all the other characters. She wisely doesn't try to imitate the actors from TV series and makes the characters her own. I especially enjoyed her, as Randy Disher, singing "I Don't Need A Badge." I was stunned that she actually did her homework and sang it to the tune from the episode where the song first appeared. That's dedication!

Hilarious! I laughed 😅 so much!

It is better than the TV show. I liked that, too, but I like listening to the books even more.
