Underneath the Surface
I love this book! Motive Matters encourages us, the reader's, to make it a practice to evaluate and examine our motives and also question our choices prior to making final decisions. It may seem like a lot to do, but in order to live a life of victory, we have to begin to ask ourselves in every situation, "What is our heart condition as we begin to make choices? Our Heart Condition is always challenged and changing. Choices in parenting, marriage, at work, and in ministry need Motive Checks prior to executing words, actions, and/or deeds. As I read this book, I immediately felt a CHECK in my spirit concerning several things I have been dealing with and my desire to please the Holy Spirit has me making some adjustments. In order to be victorious in my walk, I must recognize and come to terms with the fact that my heart is not in the condition, it should be all of the time. If we think we have arrived and never have to do a "Motives Check"… we are headed for a fall. God won’t be able to change the heart of one who thinks they are fine just the way they are. This book challenges believers to check the motives and allow the Holy Spirit to help us examine the condition of our heart daily.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.
