Publisher's Summary

Making and maintaining lasting changes in nutrition and fitness is not easy for anyone. Yet the communication style of a health professional can make a huge difference. This audiobook presents the proven counseling approach known as motivational interviewing (MI) and shows exactly how to use it in day-to-day interactions with clients. MI offers simple yet powerful tools for helping clients work through ambivalence, break free of diets and quick-fix solutions, and overcome barriers to change. Extensive sample dialogues illustrate specific ways to enhance conversations about meal planning and preparation, exercise, body image, disordered eating, and more. Reproducible forms and handouts can be downloaded and printed in a convenient 8 1/2" x 11" size. Instructors requesting a desk copy from Guilford will be emailed a link to supplemental PowerPoint slides and exam questions.

This audiobook is in the Applications of Motivational Interviewing series, edited by Stephen Rollnick, William R. Miller, and Theresa B. Moyers.

Motivational Interviewing in Nutrition and Fitness is wonderfully narrated by Kathleen Godwin. All figures and handouts referenced in the audiobook are included in the supplementary PDF, which is available for download with purchase of the audiobook.

A must read if you’re in the fitness & wellness field.

I can definitely imagine myself listening to this several times to absorb this style of coaching. It seems it’s become not just de rigeur for people in the field of fitness and health but it is just good info to know overall.

Good content and info for fitness and health

I’m about 3 chapters in and so far it’s great content and I’m going to use it in my practice. I’m distracted slightly by the narrators voice being very robotic and monotone.

A very good resource book. Hard copy needed for reference and for details unseen. Thanks.

Essential listening for health professionals

As a nutritionist I've found the advice in this book invaluable for my private clients and for motivating individuals in community weight loss programmes I run for the NHS. I've had training in this field but I found this book so useful as it gave me many examples of how to gently point conversations with patients into the direction of change.
