Making and maintaining lasting changes in nutrition and fitness is not easy for anyone. Yet the communication style of a health professional can make a huge difference. This audiobook presents the proven counseling approach known as motivational interviewing (MI) and shows exactly how to use it in day-to-day interactions with clients. MI offers simple yet powerful tools for helping clients work through ambivalence, break free of diets and quick-fix solutions, and overcome barriers to change. Extensive sample dialogues illustrate specific ways to enhance conversations about meal planning and preparation, exercise, body image, disordered eating, and more. Reproducible forms and handouts can be downloaded and printed in a convenient 8 1/2" x 11" size. Instructors requesting a desk copy from Guilford will be emailed a link to supplemental PowerPoint slides and exam questions.
This audiobook is in the Applications of Motivational Interviewing series, edited by Stephen Rollnick, William R. Miller, and Theresa B. Moyers.

I’m about 3 chapters in and so far it’s great content and I’m going to use it in my practice.
I’m distracted slightly by the narrators voice being very robotic and monotone.

Read for a class on nutrition
This book is good for anyone who helps people by motivating them. Some sample conversations felt a bit unnatural to me but you can take out what feels natural for you and forget the rest. I think it will be useful in more than just nutrition and exercise counseling. it was nice to have the paperback book for reference in addition to the audio.

As an RDN I love this training!!
I have 2 and 1/2 year of experience as an RDN in the outpatient setting. I did get trained on MI in undergrad, but a lot of the concepts were hard to apply so early on before having more experience with working in the field. I found myself struggling to help the people I am working with find internationally driven motivation that lasts. Many of the people in my program retuned with shame and “failure” to follow the plan they agreed to try. I am SOO glad I picked up this book. The many examples throughout were so incredibly helpful and so different than how my sessions were going. After finishing the book I have to say IT WORKS! In two major ways. 1) my clients are soo much more responsive and motivated to set their OWN goals fairly soon within the sessions 2) I feel so much less pressure to solve all their problems but still feel positively impactful. I highly recommend this book for all people in the health and wellness field of care. I’m about to start the book over again to help drill the principles in. I never want to forget what I learned. Thank you to the author!!

Paradigm Shifting
I'm in a health coaching course that prepares graduates to sit for the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaches. The facilitator highly recommended this book. She has no affiliation with the authors.
This book, especially the audio version, is life-changing. Professionally and personally, I have improved relationships with clients and loved ones. In a nutshell, the compassionate communication skills of Motivational Interviewing applied to Nutrition and Fitness help anyone be a better human being. I don't think that's hyperbole. I feel like a better human being for being able to support fellow humans in their life's quests.
The narrator does an excellent job. The accompanying PDF is quite useful as a quick reminder of the book's concepts.

As a nutritionist I've found the advice in this book invaluable for my private clients and for motivating individuals
in community weight loss programmes I run for the NHS. I've had training in this field but I found this book
so useful as it gave me many examples of how to gently point conversations with patients into the direction of change.

The information is amazing and super practical and well thought out. Comes with PDF to help you read and follow in chapters. Great information better than reading a book about MI because they give examples and then tell you what’s going on. Very good.
