Down to Earth Mother Meets Some Crazies

This was a FUN listen! I’m the mom of five and grandma of ten, been both the professional working mom and a stay at home mom. So, this story of Kate Connelly and her new baby, Laura was a hoot for me. Questioning each new decision and whether Laura was on target with each milestone, made me want to wrap this sweet new mom in my arms and tell her that she was doing just fine. The snooty, know-it-all mothers in the new mommy club who signed their babies up for swim lessons before they were even born cracked me up, too. And the world is full of such women . . . who have to act like they have it all together, when they don’t have any more a clue than sweet Kate . . . Doing more damage than they can ever imagine to themselves and their stressed-out offspring. The story is well written, funny, yet it has some good lessons and family values. I didn’t figure out who the murderer was either. Great conclusion! I will definitely listen to more in the series.

good story

better narration this time easier to listen to than book 1 was voice was not so high pitched as to be uncomfortable and characters could be better identified by voice.

Just ok

I expected more from this. It was just ok for me. It was free so no big deal. But I couldn’t really get into it or feel interested/invested. But reviews are subjective. Many seem to like it.

Insufferable heroine

expects everyone, from husband and mother to mother’s boyfriends and a teen barista, to cater to her demands while giving nothing in return. As a, ‘detective,’ both her behavior and that of her friendly police officer are unethical and illegal

Father's aren't babysitters.

I got use to the author narrating the book. Pet peeve......the main character asks her husband to babysit when he takes care of their baby on his own.

Good with caveats

Like the story a lot but don’t like the annoying whining insecurities of this grown woman.

Non-professional narration distracts from a pretty good story

I wish this author would hire a professional narrator with a well modulated voice and reading style.

Another good story

I preferred this book to the first one, the pace of the narration didn't seem as frantic as the first so it was easier to listen to and understand what was going on.
The story itself was good, with lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing

Mysteries of motherhood

I enjoyed this book. In fact I think it is my favourite one in the series. I had guessed at the killer but with a number of suspects and twists, I wasn't sure. The mystery was good and focused more on the reason why I started listening to the series, the baby aspect. Okay Kate still needed a baby sitter for most of the book and is still making 'to do lists' that she has no plans of keeping but somehow that didn't annoy me as much as it did in the first book. I like the characters and the home life fun. I hope there is more investigations for Kate to come, maybe with a slightly older Laurie.
As any new parents know finding time alone together is challenging, which is why Kate jumps at the chance to join a mother and baby group's dinner cruise. Despite only knowing the owner of the group, who she met while shopping for baby shampoo, it's a great way for her and her husband to be together away from there new born baby girl. Things are going well and the other couples seem nice, until one of the wives takes a tumble down the stairs bringing the night to a close and Kate's favourite detective on board. Kate introduced herself to the new mother's as a private investigator when they first met and now one of them wants to hire her to look into her best friends death, as she thinks her husband could be responsible and actually meant to kill her. Could the wrong woman died? Things within the group is not well, cheating, betrayal and revenge just a few of the motives. Can Kate get to the bottom of the murder? Despite only being investigator in training?
I like the fact the author is the narrator for this book because she already knew the characters so well and this comes across well in her retelling.

Fun!

Plot with enough twists to be interesting. Characters are quirky yet relatable. This author does a good job catching the reader up from the first book in the series without being boring. Very good ability.
