Publisher's summary

In the little city of Flint, Michigan, the good die young, and the people left standing are the grimiest of characters. With reign over the city's drug trade, Benjamin Atkins made sure that his precious daughter, Raven, was secluded from the grit that the city had to offer. But when Raven's young heart gets claimed by Mizan, a stick-up kid in search of a come-up, there's nothing Benjamin can do about losing her to the streets. She chooses love over loyalty and runs off with Mizan, but her new role as wifey soon proves to be more than she can handle.

Puppy love always feels right, but things turn stale, and Raven soon finds that everyone she loves has disappeared. All she has is Mizan, but when hugs and kisses turn to bloody lips and black eyes, she realizes that Mizan is not who she thought he was.

Raven becomes desperate for a way out, but this time Daddy can't save her. Every time she finds the courage to leave, fear convinces her to stay. Like a moth to a flame, Raven is drawn to Mizan even though she knows he'll be the death of her.

When the hood life she chose becomes unbearable, and the only way out is in a coffin, what will she do?

Book was a little difficult to listen to.

As always Ashely Antoinette is an awesome writer and Nicole Small is an excellent narrator but I struggled through this book. The repeated bad decisions of Raven – the going back and forth to an abusive, disrespectful, manipulating, and murdering man....WTF!!!! The first couple of times I could chop Ravens bad decisions to being inexperienced and young minded, but you would think after Raven found out that Mizan was behind all of the madness and disarray in her life (her parents, etc) she would be stronger than ever and not let a grimy man (or anyone) negatively influence her. I would have rather read that Raven went after revenge and put a cold barrel to Mizan temple in the end. I don't usually write this long of a review and I apologize if I sound a little stiff but this book was more personal for me because my own mother was very much like Raven…frail minded until her death. There's a lesson in this book....please take heed to it!!!!!

If you like Tyler Perry movies this one is for you

Terrible writing

The story was interesting enough for me to listen to the whole thing even though I definitely put it down a few times because I got irritated with the lackluster, unimaginative, basic use of the english language. The lazy adjectives, and redundant descriptions are abysmal.
On top of that there are quite a few things it the story that just plain pissed me off. Like when Mazon and Rich "scare" the girls. Ray says that they stared each other in the eyes. BITCH! How many black men you know with GRAY EYES!? What was he wearing? what does he smell like? How does she not know that was him?
When Ethic's limo blew up, she tried to get him out but fire fighters pulled her away from the car. HOW? Where the firefighters standing next to her when the car blew up? Is that how they got there so fast?
When Mazon let her out the basement, why didn't she call Ethic the first chance she got? How come when she did call Ethic she didn't tell him the whole story?
There is a lot of stupid stuff that happened in this story that I'm not willing to let slide.
It was a free listen, but it is not my cup of tea.

Great Listen!!!!!!

Have you listened to any of Nicole Small’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes I have listened to the title "The Prada Plan" and both books are great.

Any additional comments?

The storyline is great. However, if Raven was near me I would definitely give her a beating after all the things that happened to her she kept faithful to the guy which did not desire her. Overall great book.

OMG Raven works my nerves !!!

It was an interesting read, but it’s hard to believe anyone would be as dumb, gullible, desperate and irresponsible as Raven. She should have known Mizan was bad news after he disappeared from the party during the altercation.
I was irritated with her throughout the whole story.

Ashley loves a sad ending...

I was on the edge of my seat but Raven just could not catch a break. You almost got tired of seeing her lose.

Good but a little CONFUSION!!!

OMG! It was a good book. But I was so confused by Morgan. They introduced her as being deaf but then she’s talking AND hearing. Like HOW?!

Amazing

First let me start by saying that Ashley is by far one of the best to be in the game. This is a very heart wrenching story. You will go on an emotional roller coaster from the beginning to the end. Highly recommend.
