Publisher's summary

Andy Crowl barely knew his recently deceased cousin, Craig Moore, so he’s especially surprised to be named as the sole beneficiary in Craig’s will. Not that there’s much to inherit: just an empty bank account and a run-down house.

Once Andy arrives in the town of Mortom, however, he’s drawn into his puzzle-obsessed cousin’s true legacy: a twisted and ominous treasure hunt. Beckoned by macabre clues of dead rats and cemetery keys, Andy jumps into the game, hoping to discover untold wealth. But unsavory secrets - and unanswered questions about Craig’s untimely demise - arise at every turn, leading Andy to wonder if he’s playing the game…or if the game is playing him.

Something’s rotten in Mortom. And this dead man’s game might not be all that Andy is doomed to lose.

Good mystery with great narration

Good mystery by Erik Therme. Some reviewers have complained about the unlikable characters. That sort of thing doesn't bother me, as long as the characters are well-written. And Therme's are. The only objection I have is the untimely demise of a character named Craig!

Interesting Story.

I am familiar with Christopher Lane as a narrator and immediately liked him on another book. So when I saw this book was available with him as the narrator, I jumped on it.

I am new to Erik Therme's books and I like this story. It has a way of irritating you in a good way to want to know what's going on. The story is a good mystery.

Eh, not really that great...

This story was ok. I kept listening to see if it would get better but the personalities of the brother and sister and their dialogues were irritating. I think the story could have been written better. However, I did finish it. Lane was a great reader as usual.

I! LOVED! THIS! BOOK!
Original! Witty! Suspenseful! Awesome! Bizarre! Unique!
What an absolutely original book!! My first by this author but definitely not my last!

Narrator:
WOW!! I am so glad I have now discovered Christopher Lane! You know who he reminds me of? James Marsters when he narrates the Dresden Files series. I am going to look for more by this narrator right now!

This book was just wonderful on every level!

Mortom

I really liked Mortom. It started slow and kept me guessing about exactly what was going on, but that was good for me. I was able to guess more of the finer points but that didn't take anything away from the story. Some of the familial interactions were kind of ridiculous and grating. But the twists and turns were enough to offset that. I thought the narration was perfect for this book as well.

This book was given to me for free at my request for my voluntary and unbiased review.

Enjoyed the puzzles-not a fan of the ending

Enjoyed the puzzles-not a fan of the ending! The storylines all were right on point and didn’t leave loose ends or unanswered questions (I hate it when they do that, so I am glad it wasn’t the case here!).
The end, however, did seem rather abrupt. With the story direction, there could have been such depth and excitement in the ending, but it felt as if they were writing a school paper and the timer went off...,”time to stop now no matter where you are!”

Bizarrely Good!

This psych thriller has a very unique plot. I really enjoyed this debut thriller by Erik Therme.
The publisher's summary sets up the story very well. It's fairly odd and I've never listened to a book quite like it before.
Andy Crowl's cousin commits suicide, leaves Andy his house and sets up a macabre scavenger hunt that Andy has four days to solve because something happens then. What that something is and whether it's good or not Andy has no idea, when things get dangerous he can't stop. Andy loves puzzles and he has to finish. This is full of bizarre clues. It's a really fun book. Little bit of sad ending with superb irony.
Christopher Lane does an outstanding job narrating.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
