He delves into the business side of a great newspaper struggling to meet Wall Street's demands for ever-increasing profits. And focuses on the role and importance of journalism in American democracy.

Critic reviews

"[Kindred] brings passion, insight, empathy, and a critical eye—as well as great access to Post reporters and management, including Ben Bradlee, Bob Woodward, David Broder, and Dana Priest—to this completely engrossing look at the decline of a great newspaper.... Sad and delightful at the same time." ( Booklist)
"A fine piece of writing and reporting." ( The Atlantic)

Lacks in Entertainment

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I think I was expecting something more than just the gradual death of the newspaper idustry. There were some interesting bits, but more a history lrsson than entertainment.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Over the years, there had to be some interesting stories and witty happenings. I would have highlighted a few more of these...

What aspect of Dale Connelly’s performance would you have changed?

It was fine.

Do you think Morning Miracle needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Just the newspaper industry obituary
