Publisher's summary

Many consider Evangeline Hamilton cursed. Orphaned at a young age and possessing a pair of mismatched eyes - one bright blue, the other dark brown - Eva has fought to find her way in a world that constantly rejects her. Yet the support of even one person can help overcome the world's judgments, and Eva has two - Seth and Zach, two former orphans she now counts as brothers.

Seeking justice against the man who stole his birthright and destroyed his family, Logan Fowler arrives in 1880s Pecan Gap, Texas, to confront Zach Hamilton, the hardened criminal responsible for his father's death. Only instead of finding a solitary ruthless gambler, he discovers a man not much older than himself with an unusual family.

When Zach's sister, Evangeline, insists on dousing Logan with sunshine every time their paths cross, Logan finds his quest completely derailed. Who is truly responsible for his lost legacy, and will restoring the past satisfy if it means forfeiting a future with Evangeline?

This is a “tear jerker “ at times. Well worth reading.

Eveline and her brother Hamilton were at ages 4 and 9 years of age. Eveline had an oddity which tended to drive others away. Hamilton was tall and likable. They were on an orphan train from New York to Texas. Since Hamilton refused to be separated from his sister, he turned to a mean orphan who helped him devise a plan to insure he’d be able to stay with his sister. Plans don’t always work out.
One mean orphan, one frail sickly one, Eveline and Hamilton were on their way back to New York when a twist of fate changed each life forever.
This is a bittersweet tale of which one will surely need to keep a box of Kleenex close by.
This is a story of commitment, perseverance, faith, family, survival, revenge, forgiveness, love, attitude, and many more topics.
The narrator, Stephanie Cozart, did a marvelous job in drawing the reader into the story. Her “voices” and emphasis were very well presented.
The story was an outstanding one and the characters were very endearing and a couple very aggravating. The Book Title and Cover were simple, yet were a good “fit”.

I loved everything about this book.

There was a little bit of suspense, joy, heartbreak, romance and even attempted murder. The main female character has a willful spirit. Overall the main and most important theme throughout was about family and the need for a relationship with Jesus. I would highly recommend if you value those qualities or even if you don’t it could have a positive impact on your life if you truly open your heart to the message.

Amazing book

I loved this audio book and the narrative. there was never a dull moment and I didn't struggle to finish it. This is a truly wonderful story of grace and redemption. The ragtag band of family members and their fierce love for each other even when it might have led to heartache. Will definitely be listening to more.

Believable Plot and Excellent Writing

Few romance writers give their heroines a physical flaw. Few writers can start a romance with the hero and heroine as small children and make it relevant. Even fewer can weave spiritual truth into the lives of those characters with believability. Witemeyer does all of that and creates a story worth remembering. Her excellent writing makes one forget that the narrator needs to learn how to do deep voices. Even though I gave this narrator a three star rating, the plot, characters and writing far exceed a five.

Best book I’ve listened to I’m a while!

I thoroughly enjoyed the humor in this book, and the narrator was spot on. I’d love to see Stephanie Cozart (the narrator) do some clean, comedy romance books. I bet she’d be awesome at that! She does a fantastic job bringing it all to life!

3 Orphans Come Together to Form Their Own Family

A very enjoyable story about three orphans put on an orphan train who devise a way to become a family of their own instead of being adopted by families who are just looking for free labor. I loved all the characters the author did a great job with their development. I'm reading the 2nd book in the series now and it's just as enjoyable. I will be looking at this author's other works as I really got into both stories and hated to put them down.
