Publisher's summary

In the third book of Sydney Taylor's classic children's series, Ella finds a boyfriend and Henny disagrees with Papa over her curfew. Thus continues the tale of a Jewish family of five sisters, Ella, Henny, Sarah, Charlotte, and Gertie, living at the turn of the century in New York's Lower East Side. Entertaining and educational, this audiobook brings to life the joys and fears of that time and place.

Critic reviews

"[A] crisp recording of a beloved novel." (Publishers Weekly)
"A master of age and accent, Toren moves flawlessly between generations and ethnic backgrounds. Fans of the series will be happy to settle with this audiobook, while those who are meeting the All-of-a-Kind Family for the first time will soon feel right at home." (School Library Journal)

More fun!!

What a wonderful book! I truly enjoy hearing more stories of this Jewish family as they grow up. I also really appreciate the historical aspect- explains the historical significance of some Jewish holidays.
The narration of the story is terrific , catching inflections and phrases.
I can’t wait to share this with my grandchildren!

All 4 of my kids enjoyed this!

I have kids from ages 1-8 years of age. Boys and girls.

My older boy, 8, enjoyed this book and so did his sisters, 6 and 4. What a great treat to have a book that they all can listen to and get in on.

We listened to the first book of this series and they *loved* it. Listen to that one first so you'll be connected to the characters.

My one year old has enjoyed being a part of the pretend that has occurred after this book!

More all-of-a-kind family

A very enjoyable sweet story. I wish all families had this much love for one another. It would be a much better world.

Delightful , Wholesome Story

We are always looking for family oriented books that will be liked by the boys and girls in our household. The lively chapters in this series have been a great accompaniment to all household chore times and art times. We like to listen while we work.
My children are picky with their narrators.
But we adore this book’s narrator. Suzanne Toren does a wonderful job!
When you listen as a family you are able to pause the story and have a quick discussion or explanation regarding bits of the culture of the 1900s, Judaism, female and male roles, or Yiddish phrases.

We are so happy these stories are on audible!

Great book, well read

A great book with a sweet family, sweet story, good family values, a bit of American history mixed in and a fantastic reader. I imagine this is better on audio than the book would be! Im not sure i would know the pronunciations of some of the words... But the reader is more than handy for pronounciations, she just makes listening an alm aroind enjoyable experience
