Publisher's summary

Recovering from a shooting, LAPD witch consultant Sophie Ross leaves her job and travels to the UK to search for answers about her childhood. When she encounters a Daoine Sidhe knight of the Dark Court, she becomes entangled in an ancient hatred between two arcane forces.

Barred from his homeland along with his surviving brother knights, Nikolas Sevigny is embroiled in a conflict that threatens everything he holds dear. Only by uniting his people's resources can they hope to prevail against Isabeau, the deadly Queen of the Light Court. He will do anything and use anyone to return home to Lyonesse.

When Nikolas encounters Sophie, he sees a tool to be used. The insouciant witch might be the key to unlocking every passageway that has been barred to the knights of the Dark Court, even as a fascination for her takes root in what's left of his soul.

Sophie has no intention of becoming anyone's pawn, yet the fierce Nikolas is so compelling, she can't deny the temptation that endangers her guarded heart.

As magic threatens Lyonesse, Queen Isabeau unleashes her merciless hounds, and Nikolas and Sophie become embroiled in a race for survival. Meanwhile, the passion that ignites between them burns too hot to be denied and quickly turns into obsession.

Thank goodness they both know better than to fall in love....

Love it

I have listened to this book at least 5 times. I just love it. Sophie’s snark always makes me laugh. Nicholas’s mystification about “modern women” is wonderful. The interaction between characters is perfect. I can close my eyes and almost see the scene while the narrator speaks. That the narrator is named Sophie makes me laugh.
The ending is perfect as well. The story ends, but leaves you ready for book 2. Not a cliff hanger, just one thread leading on. Perfect.

Sophie and Nick a great match!

i thoroughly enjoyed this book. References of the light and dark courts, and the rift between them while always interesting as well as tragic. i loved Robin the Puck as well. Robin was severely victimized by Isabeau before he was able to escape and find a friend in Sophie.
Sophie is a magic user of great strength, Nick is a commander of the dark court leading a severely beaten group of 8 men who are locked out of their world by their arch enemy Isibeau and her henchman Morgan. Morgan has immense magical power and responsible for hundreds of deaths on the dark court army.

More of what I love

This spin-off of the Elder Races series, is simply more of what I love about Thea Harrison's world.

Characters who are not entirely human, but with flaws like all of us. A world with vibrant places and 'others' who add a little something 'more' to the love story.

I laugh and sometimes cry. When you find a writer and narrator (Sophie Eastlake) who can do that... you have found a winning duo.

Now onto the next book in the series! :)

Nic and Sophie are great together!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I deliberately did not read more than the first few sentences of the summary to have some element of the unexpected in the story. I was not disappointed. Unlike many other fantasy story lines the villain did not take up the entire plot and the romance was heated without being vulgar. I truly enjoyed this story and would recommend it highly.

What other book might you compare Moonshadow to and why?

Fantasy Land because the female lead was strong and likable. But unlike fantasy land the male lead was well crafted and appealing.

Which character – as performed by Sophie Eastlake – was your favorite?

Nick most definitely. He loved in a big way. Friends family and lover. That came across without a lot of back story.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The part when Puc came to say goodbye.

Any additional comments?

I would like to see Puc in more stories he is a great addition.

I love Thea Harrison's writing. This is by far my favorite. It shines.

Sophie is searching for her family. She encounters a dog in very poor physical condition and takes him under her protection. At the same time she has a vision of a man she assumes is the one who hurt the dog. After she meets Nicholas, she realizes he is not the torturer of the dog. She and Nicholas have a relationship that is tender and torturous. Wonderful world and character building. Her telling of Sophie and Nicholas's story is the best of prose. I would love to read about them again after their lives have continued.
