Publisher's summary

While watching TV one day, Ruby Kincaid catches sight of her runaway daughter, Violet, in a commercial. Quicker than a jackrabbit, Ruby makes up her mind to head straight for Tinseltown and reclaim her wayward daughter - even if she has to lasso her.

MoonPies and Movie Stars is Amy Wallen's snappy, sassy, and sensational debut novel. A hysterical romp across the Southwest, it pits a spunky Texan mom against the star-studded power of Hollywood.

REALLY...AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!

I started this book when my kids were interested in MOMMY'S VOICES....wow! Hearing it read by someone other than my self was mid disappointment, the voices were not the same, hahaha!
Hope to reread again when the kids "come for a visit"...the story was a reminder for anyone who was submerged underwater and told to breathe!
The immersion into the journey to the Price is Right, Searching For A Long Lost Daughter, and meeting complete strangers who become family in a sense, kept me on my wits end... all the while learning to accept life as it was, is, and will be....
Dang Great Book!

Okay

Fun to listen to. Not an "edge of the seat" story. I guess I was expecting more. Oh, well! Next time.

Tried to finish but...

I tried to finish the book but the story moved too slow for me and it was suppose to be a fast-paced romp across the Southwest but an hour into it Ruby was still in the bowling alley. There were way too many adjectives, meaningless dialog and details that seemed to be there only to "prove" it is a true southern story (it seemed like the story was there and the editor sent the author back to make it longer by adding southern colloquialisms; therefore make for a larger book). I usually like a story that moves faster into the meat of the storyline. The sentence structure was very sophomoric. I couldn't finish the book, I found my mind wandering, maybe I'll try at another time. I loved the southern accent of the narrator but I don't think it is a natural one. I gave it 2 stars only because of the sentence structure and I couldn't bear to finish.

l wouldn't call it a hysterical romp

The book sounded fun and interesting but I felt it was not very funny and I was embarrassed by how the characters came off as stereotypical redneck hicks.
