This book chronicles how a farmer's son with only a grammar-school education traveled from Petersham to Boston by stagecoach at the age of twenty-one and acquired all the skills he'd need to rise to become one of the preeminent architects in Boston, and how, through a myriad of technical, political, and financial problems, he unwaveringly applied all those skills to build the tallest building then in the country, the Bunker Hill Monument.
