Publisher's summary

As Ricky stares into the mirror, he no longer sees the monster that he once saw there, but the memory of his past still haunts him - the story he has never really told.

This audiobook portrays exceptional depth and clarity in how if feels to be born in a male body and realize something is not quite right. As a small child, Richard grows up in a dysfunctional family that does not know quite how to fix his supposed shortcomings and make him "normal." Tragically, he suffers horrendous abuse through most of the adult male family members in his life, as well as fellow classmates in school.

Pure Garbage

What would have made Monster in the Mirror better?

This book has no point. He claims to change his gender to a woman but he only mentions it in the foreword and last word. All the book talks about how he went through 3 failed marriages and he had sex with each of his wives so I'm not even sure he's gay or not.

Has Monster in the Mirror turned you off from other books in this genre?

Actually yes, I'll be more careful this time. There is a lot of tosses out there.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Narration was good. Story was terrible.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Frustration because the memoir has no point. The world would not lose anything if he didn't share his story.
