Magic, myths and legends

This story has a good base, but the narrator probably needs to be changed (and I rarely recommend that). The narrator is horrible with female voices which in some parts of this book over-shadowed the story. The story starts in modern day era and then what becomes the main character is teleported to some parallel world in which technology hasnt evolved, but creatures of magic and myths live. I've listened to some other Michael-Scott Earle books and this book/series is on par with his other books. Other than the narrator, the only thing that annoyed me was how the author portrays a main female character and how she addresses the main character... its over formal and annoying. Will likely get book 2.

good premise, but thin build up

I enjoyed the book, but there was not much character development. I found myself struggling to get attached to the characters.

Main characte sets up shop between all his enemies

If you like Tamer, you may or may not like this story. The main character comes across like he was the spitting image of the protagonist is that story. My main complaint is he was even more perfect than in Tamer.

Although the story wasn't terrible, the narrator was. He had only one serious flaw and that was that his female voice was like a transvestite football linebacker. The voice of the female characters made me cringe the whole way through the story.

I truly don't understand how the main character decided that he didn't want to go home to his family or his soldiers in such short order. He also decided that it's perfectly practical to live smack dab in between to towns that are hunting him and thirty minutes away from a monster den that he kicks like an anthill.

amazing author, not a great performance.

I'm usually a huge Michael Scott girl fan. And the book itself isn't bad. the storyline itself is pretty well written but I felt like the narrator took away a lot. I'll still listen to the next book

mechanically poorly written and dripping with sue

The writting and editorial mechanics of this book were very bad. the story telling was very one dimensional. (character tries to do a thing, the thing works, character goes onto next thing) the supporting characters were also very one dimensional and throughout the entire book I was continuously pulled out of the story, thinking this was some high schoolers wet dream turned novel.

Simple and fun

MSE has an amazing back for taking something sort of cliche and turning it into several hours of entertainment. This was a simple bit of fun, that hopefully has more to come. Makes me think of the Myth series.

Pathetic plot and the Narrator can not do females.

No real plot to follow or any actions that was reasonably believable . Every character is one dimensional and annoying. And one of the female characters sounds like a Thai lady boy luring sailors from port. Only reason I did not give one star was that boiled down, there could be a real story if MSE actually decided to think through this mess.

Meh

story seemed forced and it read like a bad fan fiction.
characters are good and very memorable and the overall idea was a good one.
this was neither the best nor the worst book I have seen.

Horrible Narrator

Awful narration. Could not finish book. The narrator tried to sound tough as male characters. And as female characters, he made them sound like out of breath, overweight middle eastern/ Indian men.

Good but basic

i enjoyed the book, but it is a basic story. do not expect huge twists and turns in what happened. this is not to downplay how well its written. it flows well and enjoyable. it does have some sexual scenes but they are short enough to not drag the story down.

Like bad fanfic gone wrong

you know a haram fantasy adventure is bad when the most enjoyable part is before he meets any girls or any fantasy aspects
the setup is pretty good, solder, ancient ruin, some pop culture references
then we get to the new world where everyone is a badly written NPC from a 90s PS1 game
the main love/sex intrest may as well be a cardboard cutout, literally her whole and only role is to say "your so smart and handsome ken-jewel" (this is about 80% of her dialogue) with a little "lets make an army of monster babies ken-jewel"
the sex is bad, the writing for any female character is bad (not quite as bad as the main female character but still pretty bad)
and the story is pretty much a dude making a log cabin, that's so well made that it holds of a 200 strong raiding party of goblins.
i would say some of this might be a spoiler but there honestly isn't anything to spoil, save your credit there are a lot more better books in the dirty LitRPG genre (pretty much anything)

Pretty good.

I am a fan of Michael-scott, and needed something to tide me over while I wait for Tamer Volume 5 is released. Now I am further disappointed because I now have to wait for volume 2 of this series. Ugh... The writing is good, but the story seemed a little rushed, I felt it needed a little more time to get to where it is.

Not just bad but dull...

There were lots of generally positive reviews of this book on goodreads so i gave it a go. Either im not listening to the same book or everything good happens past the 3 hour 30 mark because, outside of a good intro, its all just ‘meh’ from there. Its a shame because I actuelly like some of the authors other books but this, from story all the way through to characters and dialogue was just painful, offensive, derivative, and, worst of all, BORING! I have listened to the end of litterally hundreds of dreadful books but I had to put this one down. It was DULL! Its like he forgot the first rule of this type of fantasy, wish fufillment through the empowerment of the main character. Instead, he tried to go for erotic wish fufillment, without having the balls to write actuel erotica and instead just giving the bit of the porn script where the pizza guy offers his salami... In fact, im pretty sure most porn scripts have more fleshed out female characters. This was just lazy.

Less than 2 minutes and bored...

I don’t normally like to pass an unfair judgement, but given I had 2 credits I figured why not, I can’t say much for the story but the performance is bland and uninteresting. The blurb sells very little but managed to give me enough passing interest to decide if this was worth bothering with, as a fantasy book with the villain as the main character sounded interesting, but I can already tell where this is going to go. If there’s nothing else out and you can get past the slow time wasting first minute you might have a better time than me, otherwise I personally recommend staying very clear of it

Great story

An awesome isekai story can’t wait for the next book! James has a great voice but the female voices he did are a bit cringey, I had to keep looking at the artwork to remind myself the female characters weren’t drag queens.

Better read than listened to unfortunately

First MSE book I've read. It's a DND esque adventure with a simple plot line. Narrator did a great job with the main protagonist, however the secondary characters, in particular the female voices were a little jarring and made me wince more than once. Would probably buy the next book in hardcopy over an audiobook.
