Internationally acclaimed forensic anthropologist and New York Times bestselling author Kathy Reichs explores Stockholm syndrome—the psychology of a captive submitting to the ideology of a captor—in this mesmerizing new thriller.

The bones of three young women are unearthed in the basement of a Montreal pizza parlor, and forensic anthropologist Tempe Brennan has unsolved murder on her mind as she examines the shallowly buried remains. Coming up against a homicide cop who is convinced the dead have been entombed on the site for centuries, Tempe perseveres, even as her own relationship with Detective Andrew Ryan is at a delicate turning point. In the lab, the clean, well-preserved bones offer few clues. But when carbon-14 dating confirms her hunch that these were recent deaths despite the antique buttons found near the bodies, Tempe finds herself drawn deep into a web of evil from which there may be no escape. Women have disappeared, never to return...and she may be next.©2004 Kathy Reichs; (P)2004 Simon & Schuster Inc. AUDIOWORKS is an imprint of Simon & Schuster Audio, Simon & Schuster Inc.

Kathy Reichs is a good author and this Tempe series book lives up to her reputation. The biggest complaint that I have is not with the book but rather with the speaker. I suggest that the next time a book contains any French you have someone do the speaking that can at least pretend to speak French. The pronunciation is really bad and it interferred with what should have been enjoyable listening.

Contrary to the other opinions thusfar, I found this book thoroughly enjoyable. It only reinforced my eagerness to get the next Tempe Brennan novel as soon as it comes out. If you like Reichs (as I do) this should not disappoint you.

Enjoyable

I liked this narrator best so far and also enjoy learning some "bone science", while listening to a good mystery! On to the next book in this series!

Much better than the first six books in series!

Monday Mourning by Kathy Reichs, read by Michele Pawk, is a horrifying, gruesome and brilliant listen. Tempe investigates when three ancient skeletons turn up in a basement. The evidence points to the bones been an archaeological find, but Tempe is not so sure. One of the skeletons turns out to be more recent. A horrific tale of kidnap, torture and murder unfold. A great listen.

Horrific, gruesome, brilliant!

Kathy Reichs is an amazing suspense writer. With her intelligence and her use of cutting-edge forensic science, she guides you through the events in a riveting way. She doesn't dumb the science down too much, just enough to allow the reader to feel smart. Clever move!
Reichs' attention to detail is what sets her apart from other writers in the genre. She is the real deal, and so is her heroine, Temperance Brennan.
For some reason, after starting this series of books, I have also added both Montreal and the Carolinas to my list of places to visit some day.....

Suspense at it's best
