Publisher's Summary

Oliver "Ollie" Petroskovic's life as an international supermodel was heading in the right direction. He worked part-time for his brother at his detective agency - Petroskovic Haven Investigations - and had just bought his dream house. But all that changed when he found his brother dead, a victim of PTSD-induced suicide.

Almost a year later, Ollie is trying to keep his brother's business afloat, but can't get his PI license. Then his brother's best friend, Kade Alme, shows up, fresh from the battlefield after a close brush with death. Kade is looking for a new life, in more ways than one, and with PI license in hand, he's exactly what Ollie needs to keep PHI running.

When one of Ollie's childhood friends gets in trouble, Ollie feels he has to help. Kade insists on investigating, if only to keep Ollie safe. Neither realizes the danger they're in as someone tries to tear them apart before they can find solid ground together.

Any additional comments?

I loved Ollie, the gender fluid model with spectacular fashion sense and a penchant for trouble. I totally understood his reticence to allow anyone else in and to get close to him. But even my love for Ollie is eclipsed by my passion for Kade. His stalwart dedication and devotion to Ollie even after Ollie is such a prick time and time again to him...*sighs*

Overall Mike Pohlable's narration was okay. I mostly enjoyed his character voice for non-conforming gender fluid Ollie, who is the main POV for the story. Though I did have an issue with Pohlable's style of enunciation at times, I thought the emotion Pohlable displayed was really good. I really enjoyed the infusion of sentiment Pohlable brought to the audio.

But that ending? Yes, it's kind of a cliffhanger, but, number one, I was totally prepared for it and two...Ha! I can honestly say I am so happy I was right all along.

Overall the story was quite enjoyable and I'll definitely check out the next installment in the series.

The Story
On the day that International model, Oliver “Ollie” Petroskovic ends up buying a fixer upper of a house for him and his brother Nathan, is the same day that his brother takes his life. This leaves Ollie with a house in need of repairs and Petroskovic Haven Investigations; Nathan’s PI business. Fast forward eight months after his brothers’ PTSD-induced suicide, Ollie is struggling to keep things afloat. He is carrying on in his brother’s place at PHI, but not being a licensed PI limits him to the type of jobs he can take on.

Medically discharged, Kade Alme is trying to build a new life for himself outside the Marines, and he would like it to included Ollie. See, he has always had a thing for his best friend’s younger brother, so when Ollie is in need of a licensed PI, Kade comes to his rescue. Sadly, Ollie believes given time, everyone will eventually leave. It doesn’t help that his parents died when he was fourteen, then his boyfriend cheated on him and then there’s the death of his brother. You can see why Ollie would put up a barrier to protect himself.

When he receives a call from the hospital about childhood friend, Donovan Reed, Ollie feels the need to help out. Soon after looking into his friend’s accident, weird and horrible things start to happen. It doesn’t help that Ollie seems to attract danger everywhere he goes; even with Kade close by.

In the end, the case gets solved and both Ollie and Kade get their HFN. Just a FYI, this is a “sort of” cliffhanger. However, do not fret. It does not involve the MC’s relationship at all.

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook! Seriously, what’s not to like when a book contains: lots of manties and an online reality sex show. There is so much going on in this book, you will not want to put it down. Not to mention how developed the characters are in the book.

I cannot wait for the next in the series, which I’m told will be out in October.

The Narrator
OMG, I love this narrator! Mike Pohlable, has a wide range of voices for the characters in this book, it is unbelievable. Seriously everyone character, male and female, is very distinct; which is really nice when determining which character is speaking. To top it off, he puts a lot of emotion into his work that really makes this audiobook wonderful. IMO, I would put him in the same vicinity as Robert Petkoff.

Touches all emotions.

The narrator does a fantastic job pulling the listener into the story through voice inflection and creating different voices for each character.

Pretty good audio

Would you listen to Model Citizen again? Why?

Yes. This book has a lot of emotion, some light hearted humor and sweet romance. The narrator portrays the characters and emotions well enough to make it memorable and enjoyable over and over again.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Model Citizen?

The beginning when Ollie found out Nathan was dead.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, but I had to work of course.

4 1/2 star story , 5 star performance

The story was excellent. The mystery was good, maybe not amazing, but it was good enough to enjoy the story and not lose interest.
I've listened to about 20 audio books but only one other time I tried listening to a story without either using immersion reading or having already read the book. I decided to try this one without having read it before or during and it wasn't difficult at all. It seems like a lot of stories I've heard the narrator uses the same voice for everyone or speaks in a monotone even when the characters are laughing or crying. I've never listened to a story narrated by Mike Pohlable before but he was really good all around. He made the characters have emotion (which IMO that's hard to find in a narrator) and he changed his voice for different characters. When I listen to an audio book I need to hear the different characters clearly so I don't get everyone mixed up and he did an awesome job at giving everyone their own voice.

Mystery, mayhem and modeling

This is one of my fave storylines of all time. Ollie is a beautiful soul and is trying so hard to grow up. He is a man who likes to feel pretty so he wears what he likes which is generally women’s clothing. The topic of gender identity permeates the story and is handled gently and respectfully. I seriously love this side of m/m romances.

So Ollie is a model and business owner and grieving his brother’s death. A childhood friend pops up with a serious problem and Ollie volunteers his help. The mystery is a little bit easy to figure out but so darn interesting. I was kinda mad that the ending is a cliffhanger. Because really? I was all ready for a HEA. The HFN is okay and I was glad that I found this series after the first three books were written so I could binge read them.

I recently got into audiobooks and kept this series on my wish list. Wow, just wow. Mike Pohlable captures Ollie’s voice beautifully. His performance is wonderful and really brings the story to life. I got chills and will keep this one on my re-listen rotation.

yeah, no.

I did not like the main character at all. self-righteous, whinging and way too judgmental. not my cup of tea. though I do not know if it is the character or the author, really, whose opinion shines through.
I could not finish this book.

Model Citizen

I read this book and loved it. I’ve also listened to the second audiobook and was preparing to listen to the third when I realized I had never listened to the first. There are two different narrators for this series, just FYI.

Had I listened to this book before reading it, I would not have liked Ollie. Please read the first book, it really gives a different impression of him. He sounded so whiny throughout this book and he’s not! I was not a fan of several of the voices used for the characters s, many of which were whining and grating.

Give me more!

I really enjoyed listening to this book, well at least until that last line... If you are anything like me, have the next book ready because this one ends with a cliffhanger. And those annoys me to no end.

Oliver Petroskovic’s life took a turn for the unexpected when his brother committed suicide. Leaving the runway and life as a supermodel, he returned home and started working as a PI in honor of his brother. Only he didn't have a license, and he kept being arrested on an almost weekly basis, so to say he was struggling to make ends meet is a mild understatement.

Kade has recently returned home to recover from an injury from a battle in the military. Wanting to start fresh, he's offered a job as a PI, working with his late best friend's brother. A brother he's had feelings for, for a long time. He was a general good guy with a lot of skills, but keeping Ollie from trouble might just be a bigger challenge that he ever dreamed of.

The mystery-romance combination really works for me. I know some readers might not like when the mystery part of the book is more prominent than the romance, but that really works for me. I love a good mystery to sink my teeth into and this book delivered that. I will admit that the Big Brother porn house plot was a bit much, it was also something I was happy to overlook in the grand scheme of things.

I found Ollie both refreshing but at times he also got on my nerves. I loved how truly comfortable he was in his own skin. Dressing and acting just like he wanted, and if he wanted to wear a dress or skirt he did, damned what anyone else thought. He wasn't gender fluid or trans, just a guy equally comfortable wearing both men's and women's clothing when he wanted. At the same times he was also a bit irritating, constantly going back and forth with Kade, being dismissive and a bit hurtful at times. Sure it was understandable from all he'd gone through in the past, but I also wanted him to make up his mind and trust.

I enjoyed listening to Mike Pohlable, the emotions he injected into his narration spot on and the different voices he had for Ollie and Kade really portrayed who they were. He had a wide range of voices and I loved them all. I would loved to listen to many more of his books in the future - that is if he decides to narrate more books.

Model Citizen was a great book to listen to, and I will definitely pick up the next book in the series, I just need to know what happened next. I do however I'd been smart enough to have the next book ready to go....

Better than you'd think.

A great starter to the game, I can't wait to see what happens in the next installment.
Took a chapter to get used to the narrator but now will be keeping an eye out for more of his work,

Fresh and Interesting

I'm still fairly new to audio books. it's been an experience I am thoroughly enjoying.

There are narrators I like and those that, to my ear, are like fingernails on a chalk board. Michael is definitely not one of those. it's very much a challenge to voice very disparate characters and he did pretty well giving them their own voices even though they didn't always mesh with how I imagined them when I read the book

I've loved the characters and the stiry since I first read the book and I've read the whole series. I would live to see the rest if them make their way to audio book. Ollie is unique and very much my kind of character and my kind of man.

While i often get frustrated by how his friends treat him there is no mistaking they care which is a good thing as Ollie has a real talent for getting into trouble
