Despite being published in 1851, Moby Dick appears at number 17 in The Guardian’s ‘The 100 best novels written in English’; a testament to its continued popularity. This dramatic adaptation by Audible member favourite Marty Ross stars David Morrissey as Captain Ahab who is determined to get his revenge on the one and only Moby Dick.

We join our narrator Ishmael and the crew of Pequod for its final voyage as Captain Ahab leads them in to dangerous waters on his quest to find and kill the whale who ate his leg: Moby Dick. As his determination grows and sacrifices are made the crew worry that his obsession has become unhealthy - but at what lengths will Captain Ahab go to in order to catch that whale?

Moby Dick is a classic American novel, but its slow pace and dense prose can be a challenge for modern readers. While Melville's vivid descriptions of the sea and the whaling industry are impressive, the novel's central plot, Ahab's obsessive pursuit of the white whale, can feel repetitive. While it offers a deep dive into the human psyche and the power of obsession, the overall narrative can be frustratingly slow.

I was look for a fun classic novel and gave this a try. Wow, what a wonderful surprise! It's VERY well written and performed

More importantly, it covers a number of modern issues staged in a whale boat with a bunch of men... It's worth your time if you want to be entertained!

Amazing modern adaption!

A Whale of tale or two. A magnificent performance. Far better than any movie ever made from Melville's rousing tome.
