Story
Even though I’m around hot football players every afternoon, they are not allowed to date me. If they even come close to flirting, my dad, Coach “The Boss” Davis, makes them run laps around the field until they puke. Not only has he forbidden me to date anyone at all, he’s even made me the football team’s water girl so he can keep tabs on me. What Dad doesn’t know is that I spend every last second of those two blissful hours of practice in the scorching California heat staring at Tyson Blake. He is the epitome of perfection. And Dad hates him.

Story
My plan was perfect: convince my best friend and school quarterback, Ethan, to be the final prize for my matchmaking test where the proceeds go to sending the band to Paris. Plus, if it matches me with my lifelong crush, that's a bonus, right? What could go wrong? Apparently, a lot. First, the test matches me and Ethan. Which is easy to explain. Computers make mistakes all the time, right? Second, the girl I switch myself for seems perfect for Ethan. Maybe a bit too perfect. Third, my date with my crush goes horribly wrong, and my first kiss tanks.

Story
A mistletoe kiss is just a simple kiss, right? Wrong. All I want to do during this Christmas break is survive. A week at the cabin with our family’s friends/rivals, the Stephensons, every yuletide activity is turned into a competition where my family must win. Every. One. Yep. I was attempting to be loyal until Jacob and I kiss. Sure, it was a forced one brought on by mistletoe tradition, but there was something in the way he held me and pressed his lips to mine that told me, he just might be feeling something more.

Publisher's Summary
He wasn't supposed to be nice.
This changes everything.
I’m just trying to survive. Mom’s dead. Dad’s gone crazy. And I’m alone. Senior year is about to start, and I can’t imagine my life getting any worse.
Enter Lucas.
The rich, snobby kid who’s been banished here by his parents to, I don’t know, learn how the poor slum it or something.
He’s everywhere. Infiltrating my safe places and causing my emotions to spin out of control. If only I can figure out what his angle is, I might actually survive.
And then, things change. I begin to realize there’s more depth to him than he’s letting on.
I didn’t expect this. What am I going to do? My heart’s already so broken, and I’m not sure I can take the chance that I so desperately want to.
Losing someone I loved already crushed me once. What if Lucas leaves me too?

Sweet though a bit superficial
This is a decently written and amusing YA read, for the most part, but I spent the better part of the book wondering how Lucas came to care for Charlotte. Honestly I thought the author might be planning on having it turn out that Lucas latched on to Char as a way to get back at his dad - except there was no triangle for someone else to end up with her if that happened. Or that Char would think that was what Lucas was doing & that would be the boy-loses-girl part of the conflict that would be followed by a better explanation of the situation. It was pretty angsty & Char's not thinking clearly or reacting smart, but it's forgivable. We get hints of Lucas's issues, but I never fully got why he repeatedly acted like such a rude jerk to Charlotte. There's also no additional explanation of Lucas's conversation with his dad about the expectations for him after graduating. Despite my criticisms, I actually enjoyed reading it, but understand going in that it doesn't aspire to anything more than fluffy, amusement to distract you after a long day. *Clean romance level: sweet kisses [The narrator has a pleasant voice & does a great job reading naturally & distinguishing the characters' voices for the listener]

sweet teen romance
Charlotte has way too much on her shoulders at such a young age. I really liked her and loved hearing her thoughts!!! At first I wasn't sure if I was going to like Lucas but after seeing what he has and is going through I really liked him too. Their interactions were pretty funny. I did struggle with her and her best friend both liking Lucas but loved how the author handled the situation. The narrator did a really good job of switching between characters.
