Publisher's summary

Sometimes moms see the never-ending laundry, dirty diapers, and skinned knees as relatively insignificant when compared to activities and callings that seem more important and lasting. But there is eternal value in even the most mundane moments if the great commission informs how we're thinking about all of life, including what it means to be a mom.

Tracing motherhood in the story of the Bible and drawing out key implications for moms today, Gloria Furman helps women live out God's story of redemption in their daily lives as they nurture their children and joyfully share the message of the Gospel with those around them.

Elizabeth

There is no way you can read/listen to this and not be changed. I found myself backing up and re-listening dozens of times because the content is so good -- I had to hear it again! My husband and I are constantly talking about how we can have a missional perspective in accordance with God's Word and concepts talked about in this book -- it will be revolutionary to our lives, how we raise our children, interact with our neighbors and coworkers, and go about even the "normal" activities in our daily life.

A Great Over-Arching Idea Book

Gloria lays out the Gospel very plainly, and draws our attention from the hubbub and mess of our daily lives, to the purpose and overall goal (mission) we have as Christian mothers. It's a great listen, as Sarah Zimmerman is a fantastic narrator. The only drawback is that the book is very light on application and practical living. Would make a great group study tool where a leader could draw out questions/answers of application from the group.

paraphrasing the bible

i expected the authors take on how the bible applies to motherhood and how motherhood applies to all aspects of our lives. all i got was a paraphrased version of the bible.

Perspective

MISSIONAL MOTHERHOOD did a fantastic job of putting my role as 'mother' in perspective through the lens of scripture. This is a gospel-focused read that I recommend for all Christian women, from singles to grandmothers and everything between.

disappointed

this was my least favorite book of hers I don't understand it it was hard for me to get into it was hard for me to stay focused and I only like the couple parts of the book I'm debating on returning it but her other books have seemed great and I like the narration.

Superb narration of gospel centered book

simple but deep thoughts to help all women stay gospel focused in the midst of life. I don't have any children here, just a miscarriage, but I got so much from these words and believe all women can.

Identity in Christ

To find our identity in Christ is to find our identity to live in a Missional way and point our families and those around us to Christ and the cross.
To simply seek a “parenting self-help” book is to miss the point - so glad this book rightly focuses our roles as women in the shadow of the cross! Excellent book!

Lovely and practical

A lovely reminder of the mission of Biblical motherhood. I appreciate the emphasis that this task is not just for those women who have given birth or have children, but for every woman.

misleading title

I didn't finish it. The title is very misleading. It's mostly just a big summarization of the whole Bible or as some may call it "The Big God Story", which I'm not opposed to, I just thought it would be a book about how to be a mother and live missionally.
