Publisher's summary

Everyone has secrets, and Rachel Holloway is no exception. She’s worked hard to keep the past where it belongs: dead and buried. And so far, she’s been very successful. But now the small newspaper where she works wants to produce a podcast on a cold case: the disappearance 12 years ago of young Molly Forster.

Some secrets should never see the light of day, and, as far as Rachel is concerned, whatever happened to little Molly is one of them. Rachel has a life now - a boyfriend she loves and a three-year-old daughter she adores - and she will do anything to protect them. But to do that, no one can ever know that she is Molly Forster.

Thrilling -from a verified Audible Junkie

Wow. Four words—just pick it up. I average around 2/3 audiobooks a week, I know, it's a problem, and Missing Molly is phenomenal.

Bad to Worse

I tried to like this book, I really did. But it just kept getting worse and worse. In the end I have about 45 minutes left and I just cannot bring myself to finish it.

The main character’s motivations make no sense. Her choices make no sense. It’s like the author got all their knowledge about human behavior from made-for-tv Lifetime specials.

Here’s an example. If your best friend was dating the man who murdered your whole family, had never been caught and was still trying to kill you, would you, A) Tell your best friend? B) Call the police? C) Have a dinner party with them and act like everything’s cool, then tell no one? Guess which option our protagonist chooses.

Missing Molly. Not For Long.

Missing Molly by Natalie Barelli was a nice surprise. Often in reviews I read “not realistic.” So what? Books that are completely realistic need be in nonfiction and taken from crime reports. I don’t read for realism. I want books to keep me guessing. I never want a book to be redundant. Missing Molly is a mystery with a feeling of light heartedness. Thanks!

Main character was frustrating and selfish

The main character wasn’t very likeable. Her decisions frustrated me and I found her to be selfish. She put innocent people in danger and let others get blamed when she knew the truth. I kept thinking she could have found more reasonable solutions to her dilemmas. The story overall was entertaining, but I found it hard to root for the main character.

Molly Foster!!

Very gripping story. I literally couldn’t put it down! Absolutely brilliant and engaging. Worth a credit.

The narrator Lucy Price-Lewis is my favorite! Always makes the story come alive.

I want my last eight hours back.

I don’t often choose to give one star reviews for a book. But frankly, this one earned it.

The pacing was terrible. The plot was interesting, and I had high hopes for it. However, the dialogue was dry and unimaginative. The chiding tones of the narrator while acting out the antagonists grated on me like nails on a chalkboard. (Both protagonists droned “littttttlllle Molllyyyyy,” too often and it was annoying to the point where I stopped the book and had to just listen to a good song, because at least I would have a break in the monotony.)

Did a fifteen year old write this book? Because it felt like it.

Also, minor spoiler, but the so-called “best friend” was a total bitch. She was only interested in the promotion of her own self interests. At no point was she actually a “friend” to Rachel/Molly. She was a jealous twat who was too consumed by envy to congratulate Molly on her own accomplishments. She often talked down to her, as though she were a mental patient with a learning disability.

And, when the penultimate moment finally arrived, the best friend completely brushed Molly/Rachel off, as though she were a child and not a 28 year old woman with good instincts.

It felt more like the plot was driving the “best friend’s interactions with Molly/Rachel, than an actual, genuine friendship. It was one of many disappointments in this terrible novel.

Molly herself was marginally interesting. But unfortunately an interesting main character does not a good book make. Especially if that is the ONLY positive quality.

I felt like this author was out of touch with reality while writing Molly’s backstory. Tell me: where are the hordes of lost children hiding out in London? In addition to the vast amounts of inaccuracies and vagueness, there were several jarring moments of unreality that pulled me completely from the book.

All-in-all, the book felt cheap. I guess I should have figured, considering that the tag line is “an unputdownable thriller that will leave you breathless” or whatever. For the love of God, stop calling mediocre books “The Next Gone Girl!” It was nowhere close. And, from now on, I think I’ll ignore any thriller that approximates itself as The Next ANYTHING.

The ending was also quite terrible. If there is one thing I despise in a thriller, it’s abrupt endings. The Sopranos did it and it infuriated millions! Maybe learn from that and add an epilogue?

If Natalie Barelli’s writing chips improved, congratulations to her. Unfortunately, I will not be around to hear anything else by her. This “unputdownable thriller” put me off of this author for life.

Ugh :(

Worst type of book. No one believes the main character for the entire book - hours and hours, and you get super stressed out. Until BAM in the last 30 seconds of the book - and then everyone believed her and everything was ok.....
Annoying. Missing a lot here.
