COUDA, SHOUDA AND WOUDA BEEN GOOD.. BUT

Well the moody cover first caught my attention and, when I read the Publisher’s Summary, I couldn’t wait to listen to this story which sounded so unique - and it was.. but it was told in such a flat monotonous monologue that the suspensful mystery, the pain, the longing and the heartache was just blah. Like other Audible members, I know how wonderful a listen can be if it’s being brought to life by a skilled narrator (or two) who make the book unforgettable.. and, on the flip side, how even the best books can flatline with the wrong narrator.. which, for me, is what happened with this book. Yes, I was intrigued by the mystery man and what answers would be revealed along the way.. but I kept thinking how x or y of the top female narrators would’ve been a much better choice.. how they would’ve acted it instead of just reading it and how they could’ve made it a 4 or 5 star listen.

Worth a credit? Hummmm that’s a hard one.. and well maybe I’m just spoiled or picky or something (shrug) I dunno. But I do know that if I’d spent x amount of months pondering, plotting, planning and penning a rollercoaster love story, I’d want it to be brought to life by the best out there, I’d want the narrator turn it into an exciting listen and I’d want the listener to FEEL every single one of the feels.. but sadly that wasn’t me. I also thought the heroine, who had been nothing more than a booty call for over a decade, should’ve grown a pair and kicked the hero to the curb years previously.

Doesn't get better than this listen

I just listened to my first book written this author Mind Lies and holy hell I am in love. This story was everything and had all the feels and the suspense. I found myself sitting in my car for longer than necessary just so I didn't have to stop listening. Thank you for writing such an amazing story!!

I found the narration to be perfect and I think I have a new go to narrator that I will listen to.

INTENSE!

She awakes in pain to strangers and no memory except of one man who may be a product of her imagination. We are kept in suspense as clues unfold and the horrors from which she has fled are revealed. This is a different sort of psychological thriller and well narrated by Madeline Shade, who maintains the tension beautifully.

Okay story but narration lacked

When I read the synopsis for this book I was really excited to read this book but I was overall let down by the book and I think it overall was due to poor narration. I believe if I would have read this book in paper form it would have been much better. The overall plot and writing style was not too bad but I found myself getting turned off by the flat monotone narration style. I actually tuned out several times and had to rewind and relisten to the part to understand what I missed. When it comes to narration it's important to have different tones for characters and to feel that you connect to the people being portrayed and I felt that was missing from this book. I've listened to over 900 books and this would be placed in one of my bottom 20 when it comes to performances.

Title says it all

Mind Lies is a good, mysterious story that drew me in and kept me guessing till the end. It was worth the listen even when I thought the narration seemed off at times. It seemed so bland when somethjg big was going on. I did enjoy this story and the characters were likeable.
