Milk Run is a true story of one woman’s unexpected second life—set in motion by a fateful decision to help a local Amish farmer during a crisis.
What began as a favor spiraled into a high-stakes journey: a raw milk and traditional food distribution network serving thousands of families across Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Along the way, Nevra found herself at the crossroads of tradition and modernity, navigating regulatory scrutiny, food safety incidents, cultural tensions, pandemic upheaval, and even bitter rivalries—all against the backdrop of a fiercely independent Amish society and America’s complex food system.
Drawing on her business expertise and systems-thinking mindset, Nevra helped grow a thriving customer-supported food network. Over time, she mentored the farmer’s son, who eventually stepped up to take the reins—and together they walked a tightrope between the modern world and centuries-old values.
Milk Run is about more than raw milk.
It’s a story about constraint, faith, and fiercely held convictions. It’s about the kind of community most people crave but rarely find. It’s about parenting, sacrifice, and how ancient traditions and modern innovation can sometimes coexist—and sometimes collide.
This book will resonate with:
- Listeners interested in homesteading, clean food, food freedom, or U.S. food and agriculture policy
- Anyone curious about the Amish way of life
- Entrepreneurs, especially those drawn to scrappy, mission-driven businesses
- Fans of memoirs that expose hidden corners of American life
Whether you’re here for the farm drama, the cultural commentary, the business journey, or the deeply personal evolution of one unconventional leader, Milk Run will take you somewhere unexpected.

What began as a simple act of kindness, helping a mother who needed raw milk and a local Amish farmer who needed help on the business side, expanded into a several year-long adventure. With decades of experience in tech innovation, the author, Nevra, found herself immersed in a world of raw milk, traditional farming, underground operations, and tight-knit community values.
As is often the case when you volunteer to do something important, because you see it needs to get done, not every good turn is rewarded and she was sometimes misjudged, but that's just the human experience. On the whole, she made a lot of lives better and that's really something to be proud of.
What makes Milk Run so interesting is how seamlessly it weaves together seemingly incompatible worlds. Nevra used her modern business acumen to carefully help preserve Amish traditions.
She doesn’t romanticize or preach, she shows the beauty and the friction, the lessons hard-won through real struggle. She's a wonderful storyteller and narrator with an appreciation for nuance.
If you care about real food, resilient systems, authentic living, or just enjoy getting swept into a good story, you'll love it!
Wonderful Story!
