In this prequel to Eon, Greg Bear continues to explore the possibilities presented by the asteroid Thistledown, a remnant of a lost human civilization. The Way is a tunnel through space and time that leads to other worlds, some more like planet Earth than Earth itself. It is perhaps the most formidable discovery in Thistledown and with it come disputes as to the nature of the Way and how it should be used. The Way can be reached only through Axis City, the only space station of Thistledown.

On the world called Hyperion, beyond the law of the Hegemony of Man, there waits the creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. Publisher's summary
After decades of internecine warfare, the tribes of the Tiste Edur have at last united under the Warlock King of the Hiroth. There is peace - but it has been exacted at a terrible price: a pact made with a hidden power whose motives are at best suspect, at worst, deadly.
To the south, the expansionist kingdom of Lether, eager to fulfill its long-prophesized renaissance as an Empire reborn, has enslved all its less-civilized neighbors with rapacious hunger. All, that is, save one - the Tiste Edur. And it must be only a matter of time before they too fall - either beneath the suffocating weight of gold, or by slaughter at the edge of a sword. Or so destiny has decreed.
Yet as the two sides gather for a pivotal treaty neither truly wants, ancient forces are awakening. For the impending struggle between these two peoples is but a pale reflection of a far more profound, primal battle - a confrontation with the still-raw wound of an old betrayal and the craving for revenge at its seething heart.
"This novel and all others in the Malazan Book of the Fallen series follow my own pronunciations of 'Malazan' words and names. My thanks to Michael and Jane and everyone at Brilliance Audio." -Steven Erikson, Victoria, B.C. Canada, January, 2014

Long ago the gods chose a great hero to act as their agent in the mortal world and to stand against the demonic spawn of Chaos. The gods gifted their champion, Daemron, with three magical Talismans: a sword, a ring, and a crown. But the awesome power at his command corrupted Daemron, turning him from savior to destroyer. Filled with pride, he dared to challenge the gods themselves. Siding with the Chaos spawn, Daemron waged a titanic battle against the Immortals. In the end, Daemron was defeated, the Talismans were lost, and Chaos was sealed off behind the Legacy - a magical barrier the gods sacrificed themselves to create.

I never believed in the whole “light at the end of the tunnel” folly where people, after having a near-death experience, would startle awake in a cold sweat exclaiming, “I saw the light!” But there I was, in this so-called “tunnel” facing a glaring light, when the last thing I remembered was sleeping in my room - the royal bed-chamber, as others called it. Had I died? If so, how? King Grey once benefited from unrivaled strength, wealth, and prestige in a world governed by martial ability but now finds himself reborn in a society dominated by magic.

not just a normal Erikson tale.
as usual, Erikson is hard to follow until you know the story and characters. but this time i found good humor in it as well. Erikson is one of my favorites. try this one and enjoy it. michael page does his usual great job another of my fans

Malazan is hard to read but with the investment
Malazan is hard to read but with the investment. This one is particularly slow to start but once it’s going I could put it down.

It's a prequel
Its a good book, but fair warning it is a prequel. The event happen before the first book of the series. I would not recommend listening to it first though of you will end up confused. #prequel #DarkFantasy #Dark #Violent #multiverse #Provocative #Witty #hastagsaredumb #tagsgiving and #sweepstakes

Another good book in the series.
I rnjoyed the story, as I have the previouss ones. While set in the same universe as the previous ones, this one intruduces a mostly new set of characters that will play into the larger series later.
The voice acting was good, but I was occasionally distracted by spliced in voice overs for short bursts that didn't match the rest of the tone, and volume.

Omg bug and tehole. Third time reading.
The part with the sandal sole/eel soup. LMAO!!!! I was crying I was laughing so hard. Hahahahahahaha I love the complexity of character and the build up of plot. Best author ever. This was the third time I’ve had the privilege to enjoy this story and I’m even more convinced that this is the best fantasy series ever written.
