Publisher's summary

When Detective Coby Drake is called to the Cinema Direct theater on 9th Street, the scene doesn’t seem any different from others he's worked during his career. It is when theater deaths begin to increase around the city of New Orleans and the common factor between them all is the discovery of inoperable cell phones near the victims that his skills as a detective are tested.

Coby, a tough NOPD officer who loves his job, has seen his share of crime, but this time is different somehow. Could the deaths be merely coincidence or could it be something more sinister in the making?

His obsession with the case takes a twisted turn after the death of someone close to him. Does Coby live up to the oath he had taken years ago when becoming a police officer, or does it cause him to be just like the many criminals he had arrested over the years?

Well Written Suspense Story

I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are mine.

For me this is really a 3.5 star rating.

Here, after a midnight showing at the movie theater, a body is found. The cause of death appears to be natural, although he's a young man. After the autopsy, it's discovered that his heart appears to have been eaten internally. Then, another death - same manner and at a midnight showing. Detective Coby Drake begins to investigate - the only links are the deaths occurred at the movies, there are broken cell phones by the bodies and causes of death are the same. Then, his newly assigned partner attends a midnght showing...

What I really liked about this story was the intriguing mystery of the deaths at the movies - and when you really think about how it was done [no spoilers], it's scary! I also really liked the MC Det. Drake - it was so refreshing that he had a heathy loving marriage. This is a good well-written suspenseful mystery but what I didn't care for was the ending and for some readers, this may not bother them at all. So overall, I liked it and will look for other books written by this author.

The narrator, Steve Campbell, did an excellent job. He did voices for the various characters, had great pacing and enhanced the story with his narration.

traditional crime story in s modern world

This is a great crime story, with high stakes and intelligent people on both sides.
It also gives a frightening look at what murderers might get away with through the use of modern technology.
If you like crime stories, this one is a great read.

As for Steve,he does an amazing job on this book, at one point he even made his voice crack which almost made my heart break for the character...
Amazing performance...
