Publisher's summary

Former Navy SEAL Joe Harris nearly died - twice - on a medevac helo after being blown up by an IED. He's not moving too great these days, but if there was ever a woman designed to jump-start a man's hormones, it would be his new neighbor.

Meeting Isabel - loving Isabel - brought Joe back to life.

Isabel Delvaux came from one of America's foremost political dynasties until the greatest terrorist attack since 9/11 killed her entire family. She barely survived the Washington Massacre, only to become prey for rabid reporters. Fleeing to Portland and changing her name was a way out, a way to start over. The only way.

She knows she's safe with Joe Harris. Not just because he's big and strong, not just because he's part of a security team that obliterates threats on the regular, but because he's been to the abyss and back.

But as they help each other heal - through talk, through touch, through spectacular sex - the past comes back to play. When Isabel's memory starts to return and a mysterious stranger sends Joe emails indicating she's in imminent danger, he'll do anything to help her uncover the truth. Even if that truth is the most terrifying thing of all....

Love the Midnight series!

A perfect mix of romance, humor, action, and suspense. Each story in the series is stand alone but once you hear about the the rest of the men of Alpha Security, you'll want to know their story of love, valor and honor as well.

Fantastic!

I just really love this series of audiobooks by Lisa Marie Rice! In this book we have a wounded warrior, Joe, and a fragile woman who can’t remember the great national tragedy she was part of, named Isabel. Joe lives next door to her and when she moves in he helps her unpack. He watches over her and is just smitten. Isabel has nightmares about the horrible terrorist attack that took her entire family on the day her father announced his run for POTUS. Joe comes to her rescue when he hears one of her screaming nightmares and they start a sexual relationship, each falling deeper every day in love. But Isabel is starting to remember and when a strange message appears on Joe’s computer telling him to “Protect Isabel” they realize that someone out there is a threat. Great narration!

Midnight Secrets

Joe has not been to work with the ASI company but was on the payroll. He was still healing from a mission gone wrong while as active as a Navy SEAL. So he was around when his new neighbor moved in. She was a survivor from a mass shooting in DC. Isabel was from a family who was wiped out when her family all died when someone wiped out nearly everyone that fateful night. Now he has set his eyes on her. When he gets an anonymous email to watch her back that danger was near he knew he had to step up. This story is connected to the others by way of the men in the ASI company. Each is a stand alone but the characters inter mingle throughout the series. The narration was good and kept me listening to the end.

You have got to be kidding me!

The ending of the story was supposed to be a kind of "sting" operation to get the bad guy to "confess." Right - like someone who got away (as in nobody even suspected) with a massacre and trillions of dollars was going to roll over so easily. Also, he even used the same diversion as before, yet nobody thought that might happen! Worst of all, this was a story about ex-Seals and their security company. Please - even I who am not connected to anyone in any capacity of security or protection saw it coming. No.

Don't pass on some of the author's other stories, though. Unfortunately, the narration is bad, but Port of Paradise and Into the Crossfire were good stories.

Midnight Secrets

What made the experience of listening to Midnight Secrets the most enjoyable?

I enjoy listening to the books because it feel more engaged in the story. It feels like I'm listening to a "movie". I don't get that when I read on my own.

What other book might you compare Midnight Secrets to and why?

All the other "Midnight" titles of course are similar. Cristen Harbin's Titan Series are close to these Midnight books.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes it did. I didn't particularly care for a woman doing this story. The men in these series are really alpha men and a woman just can't do the characters justice. This narrator has talent and but I would prefer a man doing these stories.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Joe realizes he loves Isabelle, that she is his life and he IS going to marry her after he saves her from the bad guy.
Also, Isabelle describing the feeling of the loss of her entire family in such a horrible way was very moving.

Any additional comments?

I do enjoy the Midnight Men Series by Lisa Marie Rice!

Good plot, & heros that really love their girls.

I do like this series, I just have a really hard time sticking with it. My reasons... All of these are really slow to start. I am a reader that likes more action and interaction with all the characters in the series. Getting to know their personalities and how they work together. If a book has to much sex and repeated inner dialogue, I get bored easy! I like the characters and the plots in The Men of Midnight series, I just hope as the series goes along we have less repeated inner dialogue. This way the story moves along faster and is more entertaining.
