Editorial reviews

In the erotic fantasy Midnight Man, silkily performed with a coy wink by Alexandra R. Josephs, someone has just moved into Suzanna Barron’s building. He’s a man named John Huntington. And he just so happens to be the sexiest hunk that Ms. Barron has ever seen in her life.

The passion is not unrequited and the two quickly move to marathon lovemaking sessions - described with such detail it’s as if the listener has been issued a direct challenge not to blush.

Killers are also after Suzanna, by the way. But it’s okay. Because John Huntington is a former Navy SEAL warrior…because of course he is.

Publisher's summary

Interior decorator Suzanne Barron's new tenant is the most dangerously sexy man she's ever met. Navy Commander John Huntington, a former SEAL (aka 'Midnight Man') works best under the cover of darkness. Within hours of meeting him, Suzanne has wild, no-holds barred sex with John, then panics at the depth of her passionate response to such a powerful and dangerous warrior. Suzanne doesn't do sex like that. John is definitely someone she needs to avoid for her own peace of mind. But when killers come for her, Suzanne knows she can turn to only one man. John will guard and protect her body. But who will guard and protect her body against John?

#Badwomansanatomy

Vaginas do not become permanently loose after sex. Full stop. The size of his dick or the quantity of sex does not change this fact. Women are the main market for this genre. I love this genre. Stop propagating harmful myths about your main audience.

Over the top.

I normally like books with a BAD ass, but this one kept going on and on about it that at some point I stopped believing he was one and felt like it was all bragging. Yes, this character was a SEAL so technically he was a macho alpha, but his comment about the Army ticked me off. The relationship didn't really work for me. It almost seemed like the hero bullied the heroine into bed and after that it was all downhill from there. My eyes were rolling. Granted it wasn't the worst romance I have ever read but I won't be continuing on. I believe the author was trying to emulate Nora Roberts and truthfully she isn't my favorite author either. I wasn't really a fan of either character so I didn't care what happened to them. The book was okay enough that I finished the story but it wasn't great. Plus some of the facts didn't add up for me and didn't ring of any realism at all. One for example was that I didn't understand why a person who had crappy security, would get bullet proof windows with no way out if there was a fire or that she had locks on the inside of the walk in closet. Who has locks on their closet and if they did why would it be on the inside, I don't know too many people who stay in their closet for very long. I might have believed it if the lock was on the outside. Plus what was the point of taking out the lights, the dude was strolling around with a flashlight in the dark, he not going to enter her room and flip the switch at that point. Narrator was pretty good, probably the best part of the book. Actual story was 8 hrs with a preview for the next book on the end.

Pretty good listen.

OK, so, I've listened to better. Had it's good points. Narrator was good. It just needs something, like, a better story line. :)

3.5 STARS GOOD YES BUT ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

Who else but John are you going to call when you find an Assassin in your apartment - he's your new Tenant, an ex Special Ops Navy Seal who's dangerous, dark, brooding and a total Alpha male. Well that's what Suzanne, a petite sweet interior designer thought and, like a Dark Knight, he came to her rescue.

This had a very sexy 'instant attraction' plot with murder, mystery and a touching few chapters but there were just a few things missing like - romance, I love you's, the truth to be told to her about what happened to her friend and it was an abrupt ending so it could have benefitted from an Epilogue.

Worth a credit? I liked the characters but I didn't love them, I liked the storyline but I didn't love it and I thought the author was good but just not great - however, despite this it WAS an enjoyable listen, so YES creditworthy and I will be downloading the next in the series.

Disappointing

The entire story was sex. If they weren't having it, they were talking and thinking about it. If you eliminated the sex, the entire balance of the story would have only taken 20 minutes to tell.

Very hot book!

Holy heck was this hot! This book has one of the most Alpha males I've ever read. You don't get more manly than Jon. He's ex-military but still behaves as if he's in a war zone. He's very protective and in charge, but also a gentleman. You get both POV's and his thoughts are pretty crude in places but honestly, it sounds true to what a male would think. Men do NOT think about rainbows and kittens. There was no game playing, just straight up attraction. It's a short read, with a short story line where Jon will show you just how protective and deadly he can be.

***Audible Review: I read the book first then decided to add on the narration for a re-read. The narrator was pretty good. Her doing Jon's voice was ok. I didn't hate it, but it could have been better. He doesn't come off as sexy in her impersonation. This might be better to read it first then enjoy the re-listen a second time.

Needs a different narrator

Would you listen to Midnight Man again? Why?

I would only re-read to pick up what I missed the first time through.

What did you like best about this story?

Liked the suspense and unusual romance

Would you be willing to try another one of Alexandra R. Josephs’s performances?

Yes if the narrator reads another book in the series I would listen to her again.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Learning about John's history was moving.

cute

good cutesy h with OTT alpha H...not bad story. narrator was ok. definitely not the worst but seemed so focused on pronunciation of each word perfectly that there were pauses where there shouldn't be a pause. I often checked to make sure it was still playing. that being said, still will listen to the next now that I'm used to her style.
