USA Today bestselling author Claudia Burgoa brings you a hauntingly-tender, slow-burn romance full of broken promises, buried secrets, and a love that always endures.

I thought I buried him with the rest of my past. The secrets. The ache. The night everything fell apart.

But now Keir Timberbridge—the traitor, the boy I once loved more than life—is back. Barely alive. In my care. With no memory of who I am or what he did to me.

I should walk away. Hell, I tried. But I’m the only one who can keep him hidden, keep him alive.

This town still thinks I’m the girl who let him go. No one knows the truth—about the letters or what it cost me to survive.

Now we’re playing house in the ruins of what we once were: me, a doctor with too many scars, and him, the man who vanished without a goodbye. We sleep in separate rooms. Share meals like strangers. And every time I look at him, I remember the boy who made promises at midnight... and the man who shattered them by morning.

Because loving Keir Timberbridge was always going to destroy me.

And I might let it again.

this was a heavy, emotional story. I saw the twist coming, but that doesnt mean it wasn't meaningful. Simone (pronounced see-moan) and Kier are childhood sweethearts who both come from abusive homes. she was from an emotionally abusive home and he was from an extremely physically abusive home. there is a lot of trauma there for both of them. her mother was basically groomed and she got pregnant as a teen, and as her grandfather was the towns preacher, the mother was then a cast out because of her sinning ways and her grandparents used Simone as a way to control and punish their daughter. Kier's father was extremely abusive, to the point of almost killing the two oldest boys (kier being one of them). at 16, kier decides to run away to protect Simone from himself, who he thought was dangerous like his father. little did he know, Simone had a secret she tried to share with him but he wouldn't hear it. she was then heart broken. she ran away and went to Seattle to live in a shelter, where she got an education and became a doctor. 20 years pass and Kier is found beat nearly to death and tied up in the trunk of a car in their hometown. Simone, who by this time hates Kier, ends up saving his life, twice and is tasked with keeping him hidden and alive. she works for a secret organization as a doctor to pay back a debt for the group that helped her get her education as well as other things. he has amnesia at forst but slowly starts to remember things. begining with the fact that she was important to him but he hurt her. during their time in forced proximity, a lot is revealed and many hurts are uncovered. I love the therapy representation and healing that takes place in this book. there is a long journey all of these characters must take. this isnt a standalone book. there is a bigger story being told that isnt finished in this book. these two characters are still in hiding from another dangerous secret organization that wants both of them killed and Kiers dad works for this organization. in order to understand many things I believe you will need to listen to all of the books In this series.

you cant go wrong with these narrators. all of the emotion is represented so well. they really are performed instead of just read. anything Jason clarke is an instant buy for me. he is in my top 5 narrators.

this is a must listen. especially if you like angsty, second chance romance with a little enemies to lovers, forced proximity, secret organizations, mystery.

very touching, emotional story
