Publisher's summary

He started off as her enemy...and became her everything.

Like most humans, NYU student Mia Stalis knows little about the beautiful, mysterious invaders who’ve taken over Earth. Rumors about them abound: about their impossible strength and speed, their intentions toward Earth...their vampiric tendencies. None of it concerns Mia, though - until she catches Korum’s eye.

Powerful and terrifyingly seductive, the Krinar leader will do anything to possess her - and no human law can stop him. Helplessly drawn to her magnetic captor, Mia is plunged into the dangerous, secretive world of the Ks and forced to choose between truth and lies, her people and her lover...her freedom and her heart.

Note: This is the complete Krinar Chronicles trilogy, containing Close Liaisons, Close Obsession, and Close Remembrance.

Mia & Korum Sitting in a Tree...

I must confess that I was excited by the deal with 30 hours of pure heavenly listening. What a deal! Yet, unlike other readers, I found that my interest piqued with second half of the book two and book all of three. This story was a decent listen.

Korum used bullying to get what he wanted and used less than moral (by our standards) means of doing so. He didn't have to abide by human laws so he did what he liked. Korum is not without a devastating sex appeal. He is ardent, arrogant, and demanding. He knows what he wants and makes it a duty to tell Mia what she needs—ALL THE TIME!!!! I have a problem with a man telling a young lady that she must do as she is told. It felt like she was under lock and key. She could not visit her family or leave when she wanted to. I was understandably sympathetic to Mia and her choices. She is 21, has saved her virginity, and has led a sheltered life. Now she’s being forced to be with a man who she doesn’t know well--Let alone his autocratic ways. She eventually betrays Korum. But since he has done nothing but take a young, innocent adult, and confine her, how could Korum be hurt at her betrayal in book one? (It’s Juicy) The only time he really gained my trust was in book two when he told her she could leave and he would let her. She then really had a choice to stay or leave. Prior to that he was a D*%#head!

The real problem I have with this book and romances in general is that the woman HAS to be virginal, the guy is a master in the bed! What I REALLY had a problem with was—the constant misinformation. No matter how it is done, having an orgasm the first time one has sex with well-endowed man (let alone alien) an orgasm is the last thing one should expect. He never checked on her, or took his time to make things easier. His member is larger than human males, so unless he has a Prince Albert, or extra massager on him, this is just unrealistic—never-mind ‘mind shattering’!

I was a little taken aback by the preachiness of the book. I love meat! I will not stop eating meat! I will add more vegetables, but come on—vegan? That was a turn-off. Despite my rant, I liked the world the authors built. The description of the Great Panic, how the change in stewardship in the government and country helped me connect to the K.

All-in-all, I enjoyed this story and plan to read these authors again. Roberto Scarlato was an decent narrator--just slow reader. I have found that this book is creative gut-wrenching storytelling. I am not a professional reviewer. I purchased this book with my own money. I am just trying to write a good review to help others decide if they should purchase this book.

Breathtaking

I loved this story, every bit of it. It was my first alien romance ever. I'll always remember Mia and Korum.
The narrator was superb in giving each character life. Thank you to the author for her talent and love of words.

New genre to me

I gave this story a chance because of two key factors. One: Anna Zaires. She is an amazing writer and I immediately connected with Mia & Korum. Engaging, sexy, and the twists and turns had me on the edge of my seat. The second: Roberto Scarlato. I love his voice and how he brings Anna’s characters to life is fantastic!

Good Story, however....

This was a good story however, I almost did not finish the first part because Korum and Mia's relationship seemed to start out so toxic with no real redeeming qualities shown for Korum at first. My second issue was with the writing mechanics. Every time the author said, "somehow...." I kept thinking just remove the word and continue on with the story. I will say that I enjoyed the story enough that I will now go look for another book from this author.

A smattering of Stockholm Syndrome

I liked some of Anna Zaires other works. They're not too complicated, but enjoyable as easy reads. I thought this--the whole trilogy for one credit--looked like a great deal, so I got it. I listened to the whole thing and have to say that, while it was fairly enjoyable, there were some hurdles I had a hard time just accepting. SPOILERS:

(1) This is a LONG trilogy. Over 31 hours in which two people of different species go from meeting and being on very different pages romantically, to mutual betrayal, then concession, love, completely changing their living situation, meeting each other's families, change in--and development of--career, kidnapping, memory loss, re-building, traveling to another planet, and ultimately marriage. All in the span of a few weeks; possibly a month. Considering how long the book is, I was constantly taken out of the story whenever time-lapse was indicated and thinking... it's just been a few days? It's just been a week? What?

(2) While Mia is willing to work with the "resistance" at the beginning, she is way too comfortable selling out Earth and humanity in the end. I got a sense of the author's subtle distain for humanity throughout the book, but damn... the way Korum sells Mia on his plans for domination of Earth and the universe in general sounded very reminiscent of certain historical world events such as those that started WWII. Aggressive statement, I know. Maybe I'm alone in this, but the it made me cringe big time.

(3) The narration was okay. Roberto Scarleto does a pretty good job, but when he's trying to do "sultry" he sounds kind of breathy and creepy. The recording quality was terrible. The volume kept jumping around and there was often feedback and/or distortion.

I’m hooked

I don’t normally review books as I go through so many. This one I hesitated as alien isn’t my thing, but got hooked in first chapter. Korum ! Yes please. I listened in a span of 2 days, the love story is out of this world (pun intended) . The characters are all unique and would love to delve more into them after this trilogy. Please write more continuation of other characters.

3 stars

Overall a good series but I must admit I thought it was a bit too long. I was hooked at the beginning but at times there was way too much description of the way the krinars lived etc that I lost interest. I love world building I just thought it was a bit much. I may be the minority though.

Narration was pretty good.

Foreplay!

Seriously, did a man write this? Foreplay, foreplay, foreplay!!! These books are all about fantasy. No woman fantasizes about a guy just jamming his junk up in her. For me, the rage saves it. The threat of violence, without violence, is hot.

Amazing Narrator but...

Korum as he is one of the leading characters in this book is majorly flawed. I stopped at the beggining of second book. Overly domineering non-equalist disgusting pet owner he is, Korum made me wanna vomit throughout the book.

Enjoyable but....

The story was great but with only one voice for both the main characters sometimes it made it confusing to know who was talking or whose point of view it was being told in.
