Publisher's summary

What if, instead of contempt, familiarity bred love?

It seems as if the more we get to know one another, the more we are disappointed. When the scars of our friends, family, and neighbors are exposed, we are tempted to turn and run.

But there is another way.

Pastor and storyteller Rich Pérez casts vision for what it might look like to pursue love - love expressed with eyes wide open - in the context of the real world. Because love is not primarily a feeling, an emotion, or a sentiment, Pérez challenges listeners through a combination of memoir and teaching to take a different path than the momentum that carries the culture we live in. With the flavor of Washington Heights, New York, listeners will be transported into Pérez's neighborhood on a journey to learn how to love again.

My favorite book so far this year.

My favorite new book so far this year. It was very engaging and very insightful. Thankful for brothers like Rich who are willing to reach out to the hearts of immigrants. May God bless Rich and anyone else who reads this book. Soli Deo Gloria

Not much of a reader? Rich is pretty good at story telling and you can always rewind or pause with his audio version.
My favorite chapters are 4 & 6 as he mentions some amazing observations of his life as it relates to his faith. I highly recommend it...
- As a boricua, from the Bronx, I love this book bc Rich Perez speaks from and of the Hispanic NY experience.
- As a Christian who works with many people who don't look like me or know my story, I'm grateful for this book bc Pastor Rich helps communicate part of it for me & using scripture, explains God's biblical mandate to be a diverse family (singular).
- As an aunt, engaging the world alongside my young nieces and nephew, I'm encouraged by this book as it is full of great advice in influencing neighbors through families and in displaying God's free love in a world that wants to earn everything.
