Publisher's summary

Justan's dream of entering the Dremaldrian Battle Academy has been put on hold. His burgeoning magic powers have been deemed too dangerous to go untrained, and he has been sentenced to two years at the Mage School. How is he supposed to fit in among the mages and wizards, a physically weak group of people with whom he has never identified? Can he learn how to control his new powers without losing his identity as a warrior? Can he stick to his plans while the mother of the moonrats tries to destroy the school from within?

Fist, the ogre who was estranged from his own people, has now found a home next to a friendly human settlement while Deathclaw, the raptoid who was changed into humanoid form, has left his homeland in search of his destiny. They escaped the grasp of wizard Ewzad Vriil'l before, but his secret army grows, as does his influence in the kingdom. What will they do upon coming face to face with the Messenger of the Dark Prophet once again?

Messenger of the Dark Prophet is the second book in the Bowl of Souls Series.

I would like book three, soon, please.

James Foster has rivaled my thus far favorite narrator Will Patton (for James Lee Burke). Favorite fantasy writer so far was Jim Butcher (The Dresden Files). But in my opinion, Trevor H. Cooley has raised the bar with his writing style. What a great combination of writing and narrating these guys have done on the first two books of The Book of Souls series. I'm happily anticipating the next book.

Wish they were all on audible

I am always disappointed when I start a series only to find out there are several more books that are not available. I really enjoyed the first 2 books and hope that the rest of the series will be forthcoming soon! The story is very well done and held my interest.

Still sucked in.

I liked this book better than the first. The characters are more interesting and things are falling into place. Lots of action and good character development.

I am starting book 3 right away.

No sense to be found here.

Note to author,

Having your protagonist use the excuse, "I'm too busy to listen to ___," or, "I'm too busy to investigate this thing that seems like it could be important," might be understandable THE FIRST TIME... But Willful ignorance quickly becomes little more than lazy writing, from that point on. It makes no sense for a person to continue acting that way, after already seeing just how disastrous things could turn out in the end; especially if you, the author, constantly try to infer that the protagonist has a very strategic mind, and is a quick learner.
There are plenty of other ways to drive the plot... Doing it this way just makes your supposedly gifted MC sound like an incompetent idiot, who gets other people killed because of his true nature (i.e., Incompetent idiocy, for those of you not following).
End of note.

The sad part about this is that the story -- despite its barely tolerable narrative performance, and its many obvious plot faux pas -- is actually fairly interesting; which means that I, as an apparently blatant glutton for punishment, will likely continue to trudge on through the series... And simply hope that things get better, as the author gains experience.

It actually got worse. punishement to read/listen

What disappointed you about Messenger of the Dark Prophet?

Don't continue to read more. Don't be stupid like me and actually spend money on this.

What could Trevor H. Cooley have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Grow up and write like an adult. Give the reader some credit, in the end the main character will be superman. How boring isn't that. Understand that it is not about the end, it is about the journey. That is why I read fantasy, the adventure, no adventure here. Jsut a few friends on a camping trip.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Don't blame the narrator, the writing sucks.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

No.
