The year is 3149, and a vast paper destroying blight-papyralysis-has obliterated much of the planet's written history. However, these rare memoirs, preserved for centuries in a volcanic rock, record the strange life of a man trapped in a hermetically sealed underground community.©1992 Stanislaw Lem (P)2009 Audible, Inc. So hard to describe. this is a twisted funny nightmare. Like Brazil, or Alice in wonderland. just fantastic, enjoy!

bizarrely funny

This was written during the Cold War from behind the “Iron Curtain.” Everyone is a potential spy - or double agent - and nothing makes sense. There’s a healthy dose of humor here- although the absurdity got a bit tedious at times. Thankfully, the book is relatively short and well narrated.

A Satire On Communism

all I say is think about the context of the author, a Polish survivor of WW2, as you try to piece together the significance of the novel.

tale of madness

Would you listen to Memoirs Found in a Bathtub again? Why?

The particular book is better read then heard because as with many scatological type books its hard to maintain focus on the story. The book itself is classic Lem and if you like his wilily style you'll enjoy this book.

Have you listened to any of Jeff Woodman’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Jeff Woodman is quite an excellent narrator and does a good job on a difficult book.

One of my favorite books of all time. It is not a critique of communism as some have suggested, but rather a sci fi satire of the capitalist security state and indeed all security states. Lem is truly one of the best sci-fi authors to have ever lived and this, paired with the futurological congress is amongst his best works. It is a delirious journey through a funny an absurd world that still resonates today. It's got a bit of the feel of a sci-fi alice in wonderland crossed with the movie "Brazil"... I highly recommend this book. The reader is good too.
