When the death rate of sperm whales rises dramatically, a well-respected environmental activist puts together a ragtag team to hit the high seas to investigate the matter. They suspect that the deaths are due to poachers and they are all driven by a need for justice.

Elsewhere, an experimental government vessel is enhancing deep sea mining equipment. They see one of these dead whales up close and personal...and are fairly certain that it wasn't poachers that killed it.

Both of these teams are about to discover that poachers are the least of their worries. There is something hunting the whales...

Something big
Something prehistoric.

Something terrifying.

A Green Beret friend once told me about the five P's: Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance. It's a shame that none of the passengers aboard either of the two boats who have a chance encounter with a terrifying entity out at sea were better prepared. Even so, their spontaneous quick thinking and desperate desire to survive just might provide the edge they need to hold out against the relentless attacks from their unimaginable adversary. With admirable performance by narrator Steve Connor, this short but tense story will take you on a trip with waves and wonders to behold. But, there are no promises that you will make it back in one piece. [Disclosure: I received this title for free and listened at 1.85x.]

A shallow dive into terror and tragedy

I received a free code to listen to and evaluate this book.

I think this story needs to be a bit more fleshed out for me to really love it. There is no explanation of where the creature came from, for example. This would make an interesting short story in the Meg universe. If more books are released in this series, I’d certainly listen. But if it was a one off, more world building would be great!

On the narration, I enjoyed it! It’s always difficult for a male reader to do diverse female voices. The two main female characters do sound fairly similar but, they can be differentiated.

Generally, I’ll look for more from both author and narrator.

Solid sea based thriller!

I liked it. It was a good adventure story.Narration by Steve Connor was well done,as usual. His voices are very good. I did have to turn the speed back to 95%,it was just too fast! I was given this book free for an honest review.

Story was great, I didn't like the ending however. Part II would have been great! I didn't care much for the "voice changes" as many were poorly done and/or didn't change character with correct timing.

The ocean is great from the beach. This story completely reinforces this though, along with many great unfounded fears.
