Publisher's Summary

Veterinarian Aislin O'Shea runs a busy clinic. She wasn't looking for a relationship. She’d already had the perfect one. She certainly wasn't attracted to fancy pants executive, Ms. Zane Whitman -- she wasn't her type.

Zane Whitman had it all. Stellar career, wealth, exclusive social circle, and models vying for her attention. Impulsive, emotionally charged Aislin was not her type.

Two women from the opposite side of the tracks.

Neither one expects meddling from an unexpected source on the Other side.

Neither one knows the train is coming.

A fun clash of characters

This was really fun, had a thread of klutzy meet-cute throughout that I really got a chuckle out of, and the inclusion of a dash of the paranormal—our heroines are watched over by the women in their lives who loved them and have since passed on—was right up my alley.

Zane is confident, secure, meticulous. She's a wealthy woman from a wealthy family who is a lawyer and knows she has to be 110% to measure up to her role. She likes to keep things clear and predictable: including the supermodels she dates, knowing full well they're mostly in it for the connections and networking she can offer as a member of the elites.

Aislin is a wee Irish hurricane. She's a veterinarian, and her life is generally more-or-less chaos. Her family is incredibly loud, but down-to-earth and super-caring, and if it wasn't for them, she'd never have made it though the loss of her previous love, Shannon. That it's time for Aislin to potentially move on hasn't really occurred to her, but with some preternatural help from Shannon, Aislin's grandmother, and Zane's mother, a nudge puts the two women on a collision course.

And boy do they collide.

The will-they, won't-they of Meet Me in the Middle is relentless. Aislin doesn't trust well. Zane doesn't compromise well. They both are quick to temper and have many assumptions about each other to work through. Honestly, at one point I wanted to smack each of them. Okay, at least at one point. But they're fun, the cast of characters (and especially animals) around them was a joy, and I liked the scheming ex as a hurdle, too. Their characters made sense, even as they made me want to screech at them.

I listened to this on audiobook, and for the most part it was decent. There were a couple of odd pronunciations (literally a couple: poultice and mistrial) where I had to stop and make the book jump back thirty seconds. Pull-tease? Mystery-al? Other than that, it was good, characterizations were on, and the variation in voice performance never held any confusions over who was speaking, which I love.

In order for a romance book to work, you usually want to make the reader root for the couple to get together.

Not so in this case. There is no real reason for them to actually like each other. They just fight and misunderstand each other the whole book, yet for some reason they just have this irresistible attraction that trumps everything even though they never address any of the contrived mishaps that cause tension between them. It’s a weird relationship and not really believable. The humor and the tone were the only things that made the book salvageable.

The narrator has a nice voice, although she mispronounces a few words, not a huge deal though.

A Charming Christmas Romance

Aislin O’Shea is a busy Veterinarian still haunted by the lose of her perfect love. She certainly has no time for wealthy career woman Zane Whitman. Two opposites clash on everything while getting a boost from the Other side. A sweet story and opposites attracts romance. Great performance. Recommend.

sound quality is a little bad

the sound quality changes half way through, like they changed mic’s or something and it’s not as good as when it first started.

However, over all I really liked the store and the narrator was good. I laughter out loud several times.

Overall Decent Book!

The book was interesting. I liked the love story but I felt like I had several schizophrenic moments throughout the book. Although the narration was ok, there were many times I was confused at which character was talking and exactly when different thoughts transitioned. This all detracted from the book for me. This feeling bled right into the characters as well, as they were also twitchy and flip flopping all over the place. I almost got annoyed going thru the book but stuck with it. Overall, the book had lots of potential to be better, but decent in the end.

Only needs one thing...

What did you love best about Meet Me in the Middle?

A really good book from start to finish. The only thing this needs is a sequel, which I sincerely hope is in the works. A series would be even better. }:-)

Good reliable story

This book has everything that makes a pleasant read plus cute animals. Solid chemistry between main characters and I liked the supernatural angle. Did rely on several common plot twists often used like mistaken identity, misunderstood intention and tragic loss of past love but yvonne Heidt writes them well. As comforting and familiar as a snuggling under a blanket on a cold night.
