Critic Reviews

"Nigel Anthony's reading sets this recording of five short mysteries by Rendell...above others in the genre. Chief inspector Wexford and inspector Burden investigate poisonings, baby-swapping, theft, and forgery in 'Means of Evil', 'Old Wives Tales', 'Ginger and the Kingsmarkham Chalk Circle', 'Achilles Heel', and 'When the Wedding Was Over'. One of my favourites

Listened to this collection of short stories over and over again. The stories all have a twist without getting too complicated. Nigel Anthony's voices are brilliant, you would not believe it is just one man.

A good audio book to listen to<br />

It was good to listen to Inspector Wexford stories again. The crimes and twists are as good as any modern crime thriller. The voice of the narrator was easy to listen to.

Ideal - stories to fit in when you are busy

I have read these stories many years ago but had forgotten virtually all details. I downloaded this audible collection sometime ago for a particular journey with my sister - but we never listened to them. I therefore decided to listen over Christmas this year which was busy, busy, busy - meaning I could leave my next full length novel listen until the festivities were over. Great choice. This collection of Wexford stories is very good indeed - and very well read by Nigel Anthony. Was absolutely ideal to duck in and out of. Recommended.

Unsatisfying

It has the elements of detective fiction without much of the resolution. Some of the stories built well but it was a pretty stale and very brief collection

One of the best and narration is 5 Star

Any additional comments?

The narration of the stories deserve a special mention. The stories were compelling - I found myself taking the long route home just to try and find out the ending. Highly recommended
