Publisher's summary

Moving in with my half-brother Xander, I had no idea what to expect. But nothing could have prepared me for this. My brother's friends are wild, protective, secretive, always around. And drop dead gorgeous. Out of all of them, there's something about Reid Knox. Brooding, temperamental, guarded... And I want him more than anything I have ever wanted in my life.

This is an ok romance if you are 20-30. After 30, I hope you have grown up enough.

Nothing but drama

What made the experience of listening to Maybe This Time the most enjoyable?

Even though I read reviews saying the listeners didn't like all the drama I really enjoyed it. It was over the top every time but I found it humorous!

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The most interesting aspect was probably the situation with Mia and how she tried to trick Reed into a relationship. The least interesting was Jade and her situation.

Which scene was your favorite?

When Reed and Summer first got together.

Any additional comments?

I felt like I had whiplash most of the time listening to this book. Reed would say "We can never be together" and a page later would say "I can't live without you!" He would scare away all the men interested in Summer because she was "his" and then when she questioned him about a girl he was with he said "It's none of your business - you don't own me!"! That got old pretty quickly but luckily he came to his senses early enough that I didn't have to make a doctor's appointment!

Trainwreck

I'm a fan of the Wind Dragon series, so I was hopeful for this series. What a disappointment. I won't go any farther with the series. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend this one to anyone (and I've recommended the Wind Dragon series all over the place).

The heroine is so weak as to be an embarrassment. The hero is judgmental, cruel at times, and selfish in his expectations. He hurts her -- deliberately so at times -- and then expects her to just get over it. After a nanosecond of her supposedly sticking up for herself, she caves and gives him a pass. Over and over. The worst of it is, his friends all reprimand HER for not being more supportive of him and his lousy treatment of her. (I would have punched them all if I heard, "Don't be like that," one more time.)

The characterization was weak, the relationship development almost non-existent. Either the author never wrote it or it was edited out. Whatever, it left the whole construction of the story choppy and unbelievable. And then -- viola! -- the story was over.

There were far too many complications for the weak relationship and unsympathetic characters. Stuff kept coming up that the hero expected the heroine to just accept -- he kept saying, "I'm going to make mistakes" without, apparently, feeling the need to at least TRY to do better for her -- but she was never given the chance to learn how to deal with the bombshells he kept dropping on her. He'd get mad, say cruel things, and then his apology, when it finally came was always dismissive.

One last issue I had was all the secretiveness. The men in the book kept so many secrets it bordered on ridiculous, and she just accepted it. Never pushed, got a little put out when things came out in the worst possible way, whined a little about looking foolish when the truth was revealed, but the secrets just kept coming and she just continued to be everybody's doormat.

While the narration was acceptable, there was nothing about it that stood out. The narrator's male voice wasn't all that convincing, and the few times she was in the hero's POV, she made no attempt at it at all.

I hate this type of woman.

I hate to say I couldn’t finish this story because I found the female protagonists personality absolutely awful. She jumps into a new life situation with a brother she just met as her host and immediately becomes angry and hurt because every detail of his and his friends lives aren’t instantly shared with her. Don’t even start me on how she reacts when other females are involved in the guys lives. Wow. If all women acted like this way there would be absolutely no friendships between females.

I’m not ok with so much about this story

I can’t believe the reviews are this good. Dialogue was terrible and the relationships were unrealistic. The plot would have been more believable if the main characters were older like mid-to-late 20s. Major character and plot development was overlooked like parent’s rights. Definitely does not take place in US because terms like Uni and drinking and working at a bar at 19. Also how does someone not go to prison for what happens in the book?!?!? I was like.... how is this ok?!?!? I’m not ok with the relationship between the H&H, especially how it dissolves and comes back together. I would never allow any man to behave to me in that way and be allowed to touch me again. EVER! Alpha males are cool but ass holes are not. This guy is an ass hole. This story makes me feel sorry for a made up character, and that’s not really the point of a book like this:/

Seemed like the story jumped around to much....

Narrator was good, some funny parts, but would have liked the story to be more fleshed out...

So much frustration

I really wanted to like this! Had so much potential. I love a good alpha male but he was a bit too toxic for me.

He said things to hurt her intentionally and got away with it after one apology. She was weak. It was shameful really. He was the immature one in the relationship yet everyone was placing blame on her.

I couldn’t finish it. And I always finish a book.

Great to listen too

This book is about Summer and Reid Knox. Summer goes to see her step brother and father after her mother died. She does not know how to take the guys around her brother and father. Now you need to read the book or listen to the book to find out what is going on. I will be getting more from this author.

Bad to the Bone!

What an awesome beginning to a cool series....

Reid, the bad to the bone twin, was an awesome character. I also love how Summer meets her brother, Xander, for the first time picking him up from jail...lol funny. This book definitely ticked all the boxes.... hot alpha male, smexy time, intrigue from all the secrets... drama from exs', crazy baby mama...***SPOILER*** but not!! It was great!! On to book 2..!!

Narration was pretty good. I have always like this narrators male voices... not sure if the name is the same but I have heard her by another name I am sure...

Great credit or sale book... maybe not a buy unless you get it with the whispersync deal...

Domestic violence starter pack

I could deal with the story and its holes but as soon as the main male character became a verbally abusive ahole, I’m out. My stomach turned hearing the characters making excuses and accepting such disgusting behaviour. I find this triggering….Oh he makes me feel like dirt and breaks my heart but I love him and everyone says he loves me….nope….just nope…

Beautiful writing style

I have read a few of Chantal books and I really enjoyed her writing style. The story isn't overly elaborate but most definitely intriguing with the various characters. I highly recommend this author.

Don’t know about this one

I just don’t know about this one. It seems to jump around a bit and there are glaring holes in the storyline. I am not a fan of women being doormats and instantly forgiving abusive behaviours from the males. I think the story has real promise but needs some tweaking.

Needs to be re-recorded

Haven't finished it yet, and I am enjoying it thus far (approx 1.5hours in) - however there is one thing that keeps drawing me out of the world...the narrator (who, don't get me wrong, is doing a fabulous job!) is American, and there are so many Aussie references in this story (doona, supermarket, TAFE - to name a few) that every time I hear it in an American accent it jolts me off course. I think if this was re-recorded with Australian accents it would be much more believable and help the listener sink into the world better. Just my 2 cents!

Two-dimensional

DNF. This one was not for me. Gifted narrator, but the overall storyline I found lacking. I got about half way and still couldn't see what's to like about the two main characters. I liked the idea of protective guys, even possessive, but the emotions of the ML just seemed to flip flop constantly. The "sexual tension" seemed overdone and the characters quite flat when you take it away.

DNF

Unortunately this book appears to be tje authors self-indulgent wish fulfilment. I forced myself through 12 chapters waiting for a plot line that doesnt seem to actually exist. DNF

A lot of twists and turns pulling at your heart strings with lots of tears . I am old lady and loved the whole book and can’t wait to hear ‘This Time Around’ with Ryan. Thanks so much Chantal and of course the narrator that brings it to life 💚

Reid Knox ❤

love the chemistry between all the secondary n main characters... got annoyed at times wit Reid's hot n cold attitude towards Summer. so so hated when Reid always went back to saying what his old cougar ex says about Summer being to young. Was so sad for Reid to find out his son he didn't know about really isn't his son at all but is his nephew from his cheating ex n dead baby brother, who was cheating on his long-term girlfriend. 🤬 hate cheaters... really loved Summer n Ryan's bff friendship. Can't wait 4 Xander story... Ryan's as well
