Publisher's Summary

Colleen Hoover, the New York Times bestselling author of It Ends With Us and Maybe Someday, brilliantly brings to life the story of the hilarious and charismatic Warren in this new novella.

When Warren has the opportunity to live with a female roommate, he instantly agrees. It could be an exciting change.

Or maybe not.

Especially when that roommate is the cold and seemingly calculating Bridgette. Tensions run high and tempers flare as the two can hardly stand to be in the same room together. But Warren has a theory about Bridgette: anyone who can hate with that much passion should also have the capability to love with that much passion. And he wants to be the one to test this theory.

Will Bridgette find it in herself to warm her heart to Warren and finally learn to love?

Maybe.

Maybe not.

Characters extremely unlikable

Maybe this is partly because I didn't realize this was part of a series, so I listened to this on it's own without any information from the other books, but I found it really hard to root for either character in the romantic pairing, and therefore found it really frustrating to listen to.

Warren can't pay his rent and spends all day lying around watching porn (and don't get me started on how disrespectful he was towards Bridget when he was trying to find her own porn video. What an invasion of her privacy!) I'm supposed to want this guy to get his girl? I'm supposed to think he's sexy? Was very turned off by him.

Bridget is not much better. She is rude to the point of nonsense. Is it realistic for her to be this way? I know we delve more into her character later and it is explained, but I still found her hard to deal with. I just couldn't understand why they liked each other, and found their sexual tension forced. I love this genre, but this book gave me none of the fun, romantic feelings that I was expecting.

The writing style itself is fine, and I think I could enjoy other books by this author with more likable characters. I did like the characters of Ridge, Brennan, and Sydney, so maybe their stories will appeal to me more.

The narration had some glitches- It was clear when the author would cut to another take for a few paragraphs, because the pitch of his voice would change, like he might have been standing farther away from the microphone.

Overall, barely worth the three dollar price tag.

Loved this

Who was your favorite character and why?

Bridget because she was just so nuts and reminded me of myself.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book was extremely funny and unexpected. This was a great short read and I want more books like this in the future.

Any additional comments?

I will be listening to another book from this author and perhaps all books from this author.

Inconsistent Audio

The story and speaker were both good. However, sentences all throughout the book were re recorded and they don't match the original speaker or sound quality. It was extremely distracting and annoying! I've never had an audio book with this kind of disappointing sound quality and it left me feeling as though I wasted my time and money on this book.

A waste of $4

Would you try another book from Colleen Hoover and/or Jason Carpenter?

The performance/reading was uninspired. Instead of reading the story with any ounce of genuine personality the reader used very unpleasant accents to differentiate the characters.

Has Maybe Not turned you off from other books in this genre?

I am not disinterested in the genre after this experience, but I would hesitate to every listen to a book read by this narrator and the writing/plot was weak so I would also be hesitant to purchase another book from this author

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Not the best Colleen Hoover book. Super disappointing plot and the characters have no depth.

The narrator destroyed it.

To me the narrator Jason Carpenter ruined the audio. I don’t even the story was very good. He sounded desperate and definitely not sexy. I have read this author before. Very disappointed. Audio books are not cheap and you don’t want them to be hit or miss. It was a struggle to make it through.

what's with the change in voice tones

loved the story but struggled when the add in voices were clipped in places for Warren. it was so obvious and hard to listen to. also the voice of sidney was the same as the brother?

wanted more

good spin off...this gave us some background info on warren and bridgette, but not enough of their future in my opinion. i wanted to see them grow together more. i felt like it just kind of....ended. i mean it was great and there was nothing wrong with the story.....I just wanted more!

hilarious

this is my fave so far!! loved hearing a different side of the same story to “maybe someday”.

my only criticism is the man (apologise cannot remember his name) speaks in an awful accent when he is speaking for another person other than warren 😅

absolutely hilarious and the sexy scenes are extra spicy 🌶

Decent addition to Maybe Someday

Could have been more developed in details and less cliché, but otherwise it was a nice story. It showed a different perspective, and maybe even made Bridget likeable in a way.
Didn't hate it , but didn't love it either. I enjoyed the fast pace of this novella, solid listen for a day.

Better than I expected

I wasn't sure what to expect from this book but I had heard great things about the author so I gave it a try. My verdict? This maybe the hottest story I have ever read. With a romance that is a lot more realistic than you usually get.

Definitely recommend it to anyone who is unsure about Coleen Hoover.

Refreshing change

It is nice to have a book where I can relate to the people and it felt like a more real life scenario. no major dramas to thicken the plot just good old fashioned romance -how it happens between normal..ish people.
some moments were laugh out loud funny, it felt like a guy wrote it as opposed to just narrating it so that's down to good writing.
The narration however did detract from the experience for me, I just didn't engage with his voice very well and there were moments were the tone changed like he stopped for a break (it was very obvious)
All in all a good listen, it improved the deeper you got into the characters.
