Story
Since the beginning of time, mankind has been aware of a higher power, a cosmic energy, a light, a divine life force. Eastern philosophy may refer to it as Qi or prana, while many know it as “the source”, and movies like Star Wars refer to it as “The force”. East meets West, and spirituality meets science, as Dave brings together Eastern philosophies with modern science.

Based on a far-reaching study of thousands of individuals, Finding Flow contends that we often walk through our days unaware of and out of touch with our emotional lives. Our inattention makes us constantly bounce between two extremes: During much of the day, we live filled with the anxiety and pressures of our work and obligations, and during our leisure moments, we tend to live in passive boredom.

Publisher's Summary
Have you ever felt completely "in the zone" - immersed so fully in a task that everything else fell away, your whole being connected to the activity with energised focus and enjoyment as your skills were used to their utmost? This is the Flow state. Mastering Flow States teaches you everything you need to know about Flow and how to activate it.
Are you ready to change how you view life and work?
To gain the correct perspective on Flow state, you’ll first be introduced to the field of positive psychology - an approach to psychology that focuses on positive human development and happiness, rather than solely on treating mental illness. We then set the foundations for the audiobook by running through the history of Flow.
From these foundations, we break the Flow state down into its eight fundamental elements and explain why each is important. We look at the various methods used to measure Flow, explore the conditions and challenges of staying in Flow, and the autotelic personality - personality traits that make some better able to achieve Flow.
Mastering Flow States shows you how Flow is manifested through the various physical senses of the body. We look at how Flow can be achieved through a variety of mental activities, which you can use yourself, and the various applications this state can be applied to.
So, how is it that some people attain Flow with more ease than others? We look at how autotelic personalities and autotelic jobs induce Flow, as well as how free time is wasted by ‘indulging’ in activities that don’t stimulate our minds and lack the conditions needed to induce Flow. We’ll also explore the various outcomes of Flow, including positive experiences, performance and learning, and discovering meaning in our lives.
Of course, we all inevitably face challenges, adversities, and stresses - all of which can oppose what is necessary to achieve Flow. We look at ways in which Flow can be achieved even when we come up against such difficulties.
