We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Publisher's Summary
Terrifying beasts. Deadly serpents. This vlogger wants to save them all....
Mason Dixon is a verified internet celebrity. Yet his vlog is just a ruse to spread disinformation so he can secretly relocate endangered cryptids. But when Mason and his camera operator Emma find themselves on a dragon-like gowrow's bad side, calling cut won't save them....
Barely subduing the volatile creature, Mason and Emma are stunned when the lair contains gowrow eggs. While transporting the creature's spawn across county lines is illegal, the law has never stopped Mason before. But when the precious cargo starts hatching, the monster-hunting duo's latest rescue could end up too hot to handle.
Can Mason save the endangered beasts before he becomes extinct?
Mason Dixon: Monster Hunter is the first of Asher’s books in the uproariously funny New Templars Novella urban fantasy series. If you like quirky characters, mythical creatures, and a high snark factor, then you’ll love Eric R. Asher’s scaly adventure.

Saving the Things that Go Bump in the Night
Mason Dixon's Best friend may have been killed by a bloodthirsty Cryptid in this offshoot of the Bubba series. but it won't stop him from doing the right things for the rest of them. Government helicopters, Howlers, and soccer ball dragons all come together to tell a hilarious story. Funny, well narrated and hopefully on-going this series is worth listening to. OK, so I have to say, I have really liked Eric Asher's books, so was eager to pick this one up. I'm really glad I did. It is absolutely a hoot to listen to. The narrator does a great job bringing this book to life. I only wish they were longer so I could keep it going. Definitely worth checking out if you like snark, humor and urban fantasy.

Mason and his team "hunt" monsters for their internet program, but these monsters aren't exactly what you were expecting. From baby Cryptids to a Sasquatch and a whole lot more, you'll come away from this story chuckling, wondering at the variety of beasties out there that you never knew about and anxious for Mason's next adventure.
Well written, engaging, adorable and addictive, this is an adventure story fans of the bizarre will love.

Well Written and Humorous Monster Hunt
I received this book for free. I am voluntarily leaving this review and all opinions expressed herein are mine.
This is the first three books in the Mason Dixon, Monster Hunter series. It is a standalone story with no cliffhanger ending but what could be viewed as the start of the next story in the series.
The MC Mason Dixon is the host and hunter of a YouTube series which he believes no one really watches. He goes out to hunt real [and imagined] monsters with purposefully blurred or doctored images to keep up the facade of is it real? Mason is a great character - he is funny, at times superficial and completely human. This was a well-written and humorous monster hunt.
The narrator, Joel Froomkin is someone with whom I am familiar from several historical fiction books where he has a distinctive Bristish aristocratic accent. So I wasn't sure how he was going to do with an American swashbuckler series - well, he does it very well. No trace of the Bristish aristocracy but a pure American [and at times southern] accent. He was perfect and conveyed the sense of adventure and fun in his narration.

I caught myself laughing several times throughout this very well written short intro to the coming world. The characters were fantastic and the humor was extremely well done. What a hoot!
What a hoot! I am a huge fan of well written Cryptid stories and "Smart-Ass" stories. Books like Seanan McGuire's InCryptid series, Jim Butcher's Bigfoot novella's, and now, Mason Dixon, Monster Hunter.
I fell in love with Mason Dixon (a YouTube vlogger) right off the bat, as he's tracking down a locally known, infamous Gowrow (a cryptid). With, Emma his trusty camera crew of one, they find themselves deep in the wilds of Missouri, confronting a problem...a man-eater!
With our sharp-tongued, titular character, and lots of action, this tale plays out just right! You may also find a Sasquatch, and a Chaw-green... Yeah, it exists in folklore (I had to look it up though) LOL!
I see that the 2nd and 3rd books have been released, but I'm gonna hold out for the audio version, hopefully Joel Froomkin will be narrating them, because he's won me over with a marvelously Fun performance!
Mason Dixon, and all those things Cryptid will leave a smile on your face... but only if you get the book!
4.5 🌟's overall !
