Mary’s Guide to Money-Saving, Healthy Living, Waste Reducing Meat Preserving Handbook

The Old Fashion Way

Would you like to save money on your family’s grocery bill? Would you like to find a way to store meats in bulk?

In my book, you will learn how to preserve all types of meat for long-term storage by:

  • Curing
  • Smoking
  • Brining
  • Fermenting

Food preservation continues to prove itself as an essential skill or knowledge to have. Particularly for me, I saw and learned how it helped my family through the years. Growing up on a farm, I saw how important environmental and economical sustainability is and how practicing food preservation at home helps it.

We have become heavily dependent on commercially raised animals, an industry that contributes to a large percentage of the global carbon footprint. Because of the high demand, producers are so focused on developing big, fast-growing animals - but unfortunately, they overlook the waste and emissions the process will generate.

Compounding this problem is the fact that there is a lot of food waste due to improper food handling and storage. People nowadays don’t cook or prepare their food for storage like before. We are now used to treating food as simply an expendable fuel for the body. I always cringe when I see food being left on the table - or worse, being thrown around in movies.

Food security, and food preservation, can still help us now. We may not have the need to chase and kill a wild animal for fresh meat, nor do we endure scarce winters anymore, but troubles are still always just around the corner. It might be price inflation, unemployment, and other unexpected events that can hinder you from getting food.

Preservations are a way to tide you over - plus, they make for great snacks, too.
