Publisher's summary

Major Calborne Rutherford returns to England on the trail of an assassin, only to find he's become Lord Ashendon, with the responsibility for vast estates and dependent relatives. Cal can command the toughest of men, but his wild half-sisters are quite another matter. They might just be his undoing.

When he discovers that Miss Emmaline Westwood, the girls' former teacher, guides them with ease, Cal offers her a marriage of convenience. But strong-minded and independent Emm is neither as compliant nor as proper as he expected, and Cal finds himself most inconveniently seduced by his convenient wife.

Emm knows they didn't marry for love, yet beneath her husband's austere facade, she catches glimpses of a man who takes her breath away. As pride, duty, and passion clash, will these two stubborn hearts find more than they ever dreamed of?

Good story, a bit slow at times

The story was good, but there were some things left out, and at times the narrator sounded like a robot.

Good story, not so good narrator

Try to ‘listen past’ this narrator. She is truly awful, and does her best to run the book. Despite her best efforts, she does not (quite) succeed.

Wonderful story, narration is not as good

I love Anne Gracie! This story definitely has her signature wonderful dialogs and witty banter. I really enjoyed the story. A special bonus was getting to see the proprietress of the House of Chance once again! I think this would have been a full 5 star listen if the same narrator who narrated the Chance sisters had narrated this one.

narrator made it difficult

I like Anne Gracie's writing and to hear other audiobooks prior to this, I was shocked how poor quality it was. It sounded like a robot being made to read the words outloud and very choppy . The story was wonderful. happy the next book has a different narrator.

The narration makes or breaks a story!

After listening to the "Bride" series by the same author I decided to purchase this book. The narration was wonderful for the "Bride" series. The narration on Marry In Haste was a real disappointment. The book would be better with a different narrator. A real disappointment.

All in all, glad I listened

I can understand the comments concerning narration, it's like my auntie reading a bedtime story, however, the characters are distinct and true. as for the story, at times slow but overall it was fulfilling. the best part was the characters themselves, you get to know each one in all their complexity. bottom line, I am going to check out more work by this author.

Narrator Is The Worst!!

I have enjoyed “ALL” of the books by Anne Gracie I’ve listened to in the past. This book, I’m sorry to say, was almost ruined by the narrator. Ms Gracie did a fantastic job with the story and because of that I listened all the way to the end of the story (which I did enjoy). I don’t know if the same narrator narrates the next story in this series…..but…..if she does I don’t know if I will listen to it…..I’ll just find it in print.

Good book, great author! 🥹🥰

The narrator the worst!!! 😱😢

Not as good as the Chance sisters

This book really dragged, and it was hard to believe why they fell in love. The narrator is ponderous and hard to listen to.

Horrible Narrator.

Slowest. Narrator. Ever. I had to bump up the speed to 1.25 just to get through the book. Unfortunately that didn't fix the problem with the robotic delivery. It's a shame, because I really liked the story line and characters.
