So sad to be this happy......

I came late the Knitting in The City Books, I read all of them back to back and had to wait only a couple of weeks for Marriage of Inconvenience. So I feel I may have cheated a bit because I had no long wait between stories, but what a wonderful ending for this group (my so happy from the title). I found the knitting stories through the Winston Brothers Series and I love both equally or so I believed. I thought Cletus was my perfect male character until I read Dan the Security Man's story. He and Kat's story was so wonderfully romantic and hilarious, mainly due to Dan. Dan was such a rich and well developed character; maybe due to Mrs. Reid being able to ruminate on him throughout the other Knitting in the City stories. I also think Mrs. Reid 's change of writing style to tell Dan and Kat's story was perfect. The change added a great deal to my enjoyment of the book and made the smile on my face so much bigger. The story was well balanced with laugh out loud funny moments as well as great examples of "cry porn". The funny parts were much more numerous. This book included some suspense and intrigue also. And per usual for a Penny Reid novel, I came away with a little bit more knowledge on a couple of topics. In this book I learned a little something about the pharmaceutical industry and came away with some points to ponder regarding mental illness. I thank Penny for the thoughts on mental illness. Now my complaint (the sad): is this the end of the series?? All of the original group have paired off and have their HEA. We have seen a little peak of each couple's HEA as they were a part of the next novel in the series but was it enough? If I could ask Mrs. Reid for a favor it would be to write a story (even if it is just a short story or novella) that is set 15 or 20 years in the future that gives a nice glimpse of the life each couple has lived and how their marriage/relationship developed over the years. Some stories about their children, their home/household, and their careers. Who had children, how many and whose children have become close. Which husbands became close friends as the years passed. And most important how did the relationship of the ladies change and grow as they aged and distance separated them, did it end the Tuesday night tradition? Or did it make them find other ways to support and appreciate each other? How does the Tuesday night knitting group look years later and is the love and appreciation of the friendship still the same? I know Mrs. Reid has so many irons in the fire but I would love a HEA that wraps up the entire series. I also need to say that due to this series I have become a knitter, still early stages but I’m hooked. There are no groups or shops in my area so I am learning via videos and books but I am sticking with it, so thank you for the hobby. And thank you for the company, I lost my husband recently to pancreatic cancer and the ladies in the knitting group became friends when I needed them. So I appreciated their company more than I can say, thank you so much. Thank you for such well developed and engaging characters, I love them all.

F bombs times 1,000,000+Hated the male narration

The language ruined this one for me. Penny Reid is one of my top 3 favorite authors and I have read everything she has written. I was SO turned off by the amount of f-bombs in this story. Literally, in almost every sentence Dan uttered... it was over the top. I know this doesn't bother some, but it did me. Also, I hated Dan's heavily over done accent. It made him sound dumb and unattractive. Angela Dawe was wonderful, as usual, as Kat. The story itself could have been a 4.5 star for me if it hadn't been for those two things...

I never write reviews but..

I love Penny Reid but I can't audio with this book. The performances are so off to me. Kat is very abrupt and the feel isn't right, and Dan.... I am from Boston, love the place, love the accent...sometimes, but if Dan walked up to me with that accent, I would smack him upside the head and tell him to go back to New York where he is obviously from. Anyway, I am sure they are great narrators, it just doesn't feel authentic to the characters. I'm going to have to finish up e-reading this one.

Some books are meant to be read and not listened to. This is one of those. This is not a bad book, just incredibly annoying to listen to. It goes on and on and nothing happens. The irritating narration adds to the annoyance. I gave up listening and read the book.

I LOVE Penny Reid. My favorite romance novelist.

This was so great. I try to reserve my 5-Star ratings for things like War & Peace or Interview With the Vampire, but Penny, IMO, is in those authors’ league with Knitting in the City and The Winston Brothers. Some of the best fiction in existence. I also love her older stuff, though not quite as much.

I love how Penny addresses different emotionally-charged social issues, such as mental illness like this, in her stories. It makes them so much better, so much more accessible on an emotional level.

I think this is the first time I’ve heard Angela Dawe and Stephen Dexter. They did great. Excellent pacing, excellent genders, excellent accents, excellent characterization. No complaints at all.

Must Miss Book

I am grateful I didn’t use a credit on this book. It was 16 plus hours of hand wringing and gnashing of teeth along with a ludicrous story line. If the author took out the repetitive “I need to tell but I can’t” portions the book would be a pamphlet. This is the first negative review I have ever left but this book was so bad I had to

This is the last book in the Knitting in the City series, so considering I've come this far you'd be right in assuming I'm a huge fan of the series. I already have this book on my Kindle, but wanted to be able to listen to it as well. I devoured the book on my kindle in one sitting, and felt it was the absolute perfect ending. I truly loved Kat and Dan (Dan cusses a lot, but this isn't something that bothers me at all).

Unfortunately, I feel the female narrator was completely wrong for Kat. Kat's personality is more quiet, not weak in any way, just quiet. The narrator reads extremely fast and makes Kat sound very aggressive. (Sidenote, this is the same narrator used for Beard in Mind, and I felt she 'fit' the personality of the heroine). I literally cringed at how she read Kat. It isn't the narrator's voice, just her interpretation.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the narrator for Dan is absolutely perfect. His accent, tone, and reading speed fits Dan to a t!

Considering the perfection of Dan's narrator, I'm just so sad because I can't listen to Kat's side of the story, so I'll have to return this one. (Or maybe just listen to Dan's chapters!)

Absolutely delightful

Marriage of Inconvenience is another winning novel in Penny Reid's Kniting in the City Series. I read this book when it was released and enjoyed every bit of it. Her characters are multi dimensional one moment tugging at your heart; another moment sending you into fits of laughter but always deliverng a satisfying story.

The narration in this Audible Book adds another enjoyable dimension. Angela Dawe & Stephen Dexter capture this rom/com perfectly. So place this on on your favorite device and turn on this absolutely delightful Boston based rom/com.

Why didn't I read Goodreads reviews first?!! Mind numbing idiocy.
Soooo disappointed in Penny Reid. I ordered the audio because of a recent Melanie Harlow live interview with the male narrator of this story, Stephen Dexter. He is great and the character he portrays, Dan the Man, is too. In the interview, a listener mentioned his narration for the book in such a positive way that I bought it.
1. It is unfortunate that the female narrator just annoyed the shit out of me. By the 50% mark, I was ready to scream. I wish there were some way to evaluate the quality of the female narrator before purchasing.
2. Angela Dawe is AWFUL. Because of her , I couldn't finish.
3. And finally , the story is dumb on so many levels. I looked forward to the knitting club scenes and got through the first one in this story with my head spinning. The asinine discussion (from out of nowhere) about anal sex just went on and on.
4. First and last Penny Reid book for me. And Angela Dawe - stay away!!!!

Disappointing end to an excellent series

This is the last in the series, but you do need to read the previous books to understand many of the side characters and their individual quirks. Unfortunately I did not warm to the h in this book. In previous books she was depicted as shy and withdrawn, but in this book her internal monologues were depressing and immature, and she often created silly “issues” in her head which caused pointless conflict.

The H in this book is fantastic, but he made an assumption about the h that was so strange that it seemed implausible that it took two years for the mistake to be realised. The first half of this book could have been covered in one chapter if the couple had just sat down for an hour and had a decent conversation, but instead every interaction between them is strung out with work/friend “interruptions”, and the story dragged.

The second half of the book had lots of “almost” sex, thinking about sex, practicing sex etc etc (yawn), due to the sudden disclosure that the h has a wierd sexual hang-up, which seemed contrived simply as an excuse to put in long extended chapters of sexual foreplay. This focus on sex took away from the anticipated corporate fraud plotline, and we are expected to believe that running a billion dollar company just needs a couple of days attendance per month to learn the ropes, and a group of friends who conveniently have all the required expert knowledge (and spare time) to untangle the wrong doings. I yearned for the Alex/Sandra/bitcoin book where the reader was credited with some intelligence, instead of an implausible kidnapping plot which, I agree with other reviewers, felt more like a Scooby Doo cartoon.

I really loathe giving a bad review to a Penny Reid book, as this writer has brought me so much joy in the past with her fabulous characters and unusual romances. But this book dwells too much on sex, and not enough on proper adult interactions and a fraud plotline that has some teeth.

I loved this story so much. It was rich in both plot and characters brought to life fantastically by the narrators, Stephen Dexter and Angela Dawe. Wonderful 💖💖💖💖💖

goes downhill come chapter 27

the sound just started skipping, with static on the audio it became difficult to hear anything, despite the female narrator being one of my favourites, I felt so cheated surely someone edits this to check customers aren't cheated in this way? I've never experienced this with a book before what a shame as I don't know wherein lies the fault can't say I will be listening to the series after this despite my interest having been peeked with regards to other characters

Fantastic book for Penny Reid

This is the final instalment of Knitting in the City series and I do believe this was my favourite.
As always Penny’s writing is exceptional.

The narration of this book is excellent, the intonation of both characters spot on. Loved the humour and the storyline. Slightly sad that the epilogue seems to indicate no more in this series....
