The investigators soon establish that the evidence implicating Henry is flimsy and circumstantial, and his alibi is easily verified. But that leaves them, along with the sister of the deceased, to unravel the tangled puzzle of who strangled Viola Huntingdon and was it the secret admirer she referred to only as “H”?

This was the worst narration of a Stephanie Laurens book ever.

Stephanie Lauren's books have long been my favorite for both the quality of writing and narration. I gave up after a few chapters. I cannot finish listening to this narration. I have bought the kindle version and would rather listen to my old kindle robotic voice to finish the book. Please never use this person again.

Great story horrible narration

This is one of my favorite mystery writers. But unfortunately unlike her others they changed the narrators and they were horrible.,Especially bad was the character of Penelope. This is nothing like the other portrayals. In this one it sounds like it is a man trying to talk like a woman and it is not done well, Also the character of Stokes from previous books was completely off too. It almost turned me off the book completely. This needs to be re-done.

Killing for what you want

Good story of a clergyman’s daughter that was well
off due to her father’s stock purchases. She was being courted by a man that was interested in her. Unfortunately, she was murdered and her sister came to visit on the day she died. Adair and Penelope with Stokes were investigating as one of their friends was being accused of this murder and was requesting help.

Another Solid Entry

It took a bit getting used to the new narrator, being so used to Napoleon Ryan narrating this series; but I think that Mr. Gerard does a decent job. The story moves along at a decent clip; and has a decent twist. One observation is that as the series has moved along it does seem that the mysteries are becoming more prominent than the love stories.

Good plot

I didn’t enjoy the narration. The book was stiff and I here were little too f no characters that evolved, grow, changed and the love story was almost not there at all. Like a boring background. But the plot and some of the twists were interesting.

Expect the unexpected

I so wanted a particular character to be guilty! but.... one of SL's strengths is showing that just because a character is the hero/heroine or villain does not mean that they have only those characteristics. Her characters are well rounded and so the plots and sub-plots can be so annoyingly excellent!

Pretty good story and plot. The narrator was not very good

The story was well paced and had interesting turns and characters. I liked the logic and how they all work together as usual. It's a good story worth reading.

I have enjoyed so many Stephanie Lauren's books and listen to a majority on audiobook because the narration is usually superb. This did not meet that standard I am sorry to say. I may have to read the next one instead if the narration continues with this provider.

Probably the only Stephanie Laurens’ I have not liked.

The narrator/reader’s “female” voices were so jarring - sort of like a drag queen imitating what he thought a woman sounded like. It made it impossible to enjoy. Probably a good read but not a good listen.

Henry Glossup Redux

Links: We first met Henry Glossup and his brother James five years ago in The Perfect Lover, featuring Simon Cynster and Portia Ashford. James Glossup had his own story with Henrietta Cynster in And Then She Fell.
Henry Glossup is accused of being the secret lover of a local spinster who is found murdered. He is so upset that he travels to London to ask Barnaby and Penelope for help in clearing his name. Before they can contact Stokes, he arrives to say the Commissioner has requested the trio travel to Salisbury in response to a request from the local police station. We get a mysterious man friend, missing jewelry, and a murder that gets investigated by the Trio, Henry Glossup, Madeline Huntingdon, a local constable, and the Salisbury police.
Henry & Madeline get their HEA.
I’d like to hear more about the women’s investment club.

Gerrard does a better job of narration than Ryan, but none in this series has been in the same city, let alone the same ballpark as Prebble or Brenher.
