Publisher's summary

Aliens exist...and, as it turns out, most of them aren’t that friendly. Jacob Brown wasn’t even born yet the first time they attacked Earth. He was only 14 the second time it happened.

When Earth finally came together and fielded its first spaceborne military, Jacob didn’t hesitate to volunteer. Serving aboard a mighty starship, he’d be able to defend his planet - and his family - when, inevitably, they came again.

Just as he’s about to graduate training, however, Jacob is approached by an officer from Naval Special Operation Command and given a choice: volunteer for a risky mission to a dangerous, lawless world or give up his dream of serving in the military and go home. He has no idea why he’s being singled out in such an unusual manner, but now, it's either agree to their demands or give up his dream of being on a starship.

Soon, getting his career back on the right track will be the least of his concerns when it seems like everyone - and everything - he meets is trying to kill him. When he stumbles upon a secret most people on Earth are blissfully unaware of, he realizes it's not just the aliens he needs to be worried about.

Another Great story....

I loved how this one is a spin off of the OF.
Having the different dynamics between Father and son and then realizing that maybe, Just maybe they aren't so different???
plus I like how the two series are in the same time frame but are kept separate. This should make for a long running series and the one big question that I have is..... When will they meet up???? Now that will be greatly anticipated!!!!

Son Sans Sire

Haven't read the O series but, it seems, I will begin soon. Jacob is interesting but limited, by storyline not ability. I am excited and hopeful about his new team leader. I anticipate a nice surprise. Murphy looks to be Tonto to Jacob's Ranger, not lone due to the team of pros that will be covering his six while he looks for/avoids his dear old hybrid dad. Always fun. Looking forward to it.

Single marine unit focus-intergallactic intrigue

Jacob Brown, the son of Obsidian Force's Jacob Burke, has powers inherited from his father, whom he hates. Because of his inherited skills and temperament the leader of Naval Special Operations Command brings Jacob into the Marine Corps. On his first tactical operation, Jacob is forced to assume command of the detachment as they pursue their mission. During the mission, Jacob grows in command, With considerable difficulty, and some international incidents, the team barrels forward on their mission. As the author's epilogue says, this story is about a small unit focused on their mission with a single Marine doing his job, like E.B. Griffith's Corps series.

Very well done offshoot.

Picked this up while waiting for O/F Rebellion to come out. I knew nothing of this new series, except that Dalzelle had written it. Given my enthusiasm for his work and creativity... it seemed like a risk worth taking.
Not only did the writing not disappoint, I was elated to see this takes place, and indirectly ties to the O/F series in a very direct way.
It’s well worth your time, and money.

Wonderful Surprise! Excellent Book.

Every now and then I get lucky and find a book, written by an author I've never heard of, and the book hits a home run. If you are aware of Dalzelle's "Omega Force" books (I've not listened to these YET) you already know the quality of author and storyteller he is. If not, and you like military sci-fi books, BUY THIS NOW!!! LOL.

Not only was this a fantastic listen with excellently written characters and a quickly moving storyline, but the narration was fantastic. Paul Heitsch does a great job with characters but keeps you engaged all the way through.

BUY THIS BOOK! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Marine

This audio was full of action, drama, and intrigue that left me with wanting more and wondering what is going to happen next.
I would recommend this read to young adults and older.

fun and fast paced

I have read nothing by this author before; I much enjoyed this book. It sucked me in right from the beginning. I look forward to seeing more in this series, and have enjoyed enough that I will now go back and look at his previous works to see if they are to my taste. It's certainly worth a read.
