Publisher's summary

Explore the captivating life of Marie Antoinette.

Marie Antoinette is one of history's most celebrated queens thanks to her style and confidence, yet generally, she is perceived as a greedy and selfish mistress of France.

Born into a life of pure luxury as a princess of Austria, Marie was very young when she was shipped abroad to await her turn as the queen of France. She was forced all at once to come to terms with a foreign language, a different culture, and a court full of gossipy nobles who pounced at the first sign of weakness.

Despite popular belief, Marie Antoinette was not entirely obsessed with pretty dresses and towering hairstyles - though she wouldn't quite have been the same without them.

In this captivating audiobook, you will discover the truth about the remarkable life of Marie Antoinette.

Some of the topics covered in this audiobook include:

  • An archduchess is born
  • Maria Antonia becomes Marie Antoinette
  • The dauphine
  • Queen at 19
  • A marriage at odds with itself

A must read for lovers of Paris!

The period immediately prior to the French Revolution and the end of the monarchy is fascinating and Captivating History's book provides valuable details and insights into that fascinating period. The narrative and research presented make for a wonderful read. For those who have enjoyed the ancient sites of Paris, this book brings to life the terrible events that transpired at so many of the sites tourists visit today. The City of Light has a bloody and violent history that is presented here and makes this book a must read.

A great job of reporting the facts.

"I love the Empress...but I'm frightened of her even at a distance." Even when she gets her "just desserts," the reader feels some pity. Meachen Rau doesn't hold any punches about Marie's demise: After "her head tumbled into a basket...Marie Antoinette's body and head were tossed in a wheelbarow and carted away." I think this book might make young readers--girls especially.

enjoyable

Very informative and interesting I only removed one star because the quality control could have been a bit better. The author mispronounces a few words such as "vehemently", "revered" and "burgeoning" and it seems that should have been caught in the production process. however his French pronunciation is good.

Good biography for even students.

Excellent biography especially for some of our reluctant young readers who are required to read a biography. I enjoyed reading this book and thought the illustrations were very nice.

Interesting biography.

Nicely done, clear ,interesting mini - biography to peak the interest of someone new to the historical scene; I would definitely recommend it for teen level- the illustrations are charming ,though it would have been nice to have one real image of the very attractive young queen.

Narration wasn't the best

I don't think I've ever heard so many words pronounced so oddly. It also felt like listening to a slow lecture. Sorry was fine, narration was not the best.

A Great Read....

Though many historical biographies can be drawn out and boring, I really enjoyed this book. I'd been curious about the events during Marie Antoinette's reign that led to the citizens revolt, and ultimately, her demise. To The Scaffold tells her story from birth to death in a very readable, interesting format that doesn't drag on and on, with lots of great information about the French culture and resulting revolution. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to learn more about European history!

We love them all...

I loved learning about Marie Antoinette but it is very tragic for how she treated the french. There seem to be something with french for always blaming others for they're poor life decisions liked the killed Marie Antoinette ,her husband ,and sister-in-law Elisbeth . Now Elisabeth is innocent so the french were messed up. Well that's my opinion . But I seriously loved this book!!!! You should totally get it.

It''s a story that needs to be heard, how a. tragiic youmg girl is traded in order to create an alliance between two countries. Married Antoinette has been misjudgged by History, by things she did not commit.
