Publisher's Summary

Southern charm meets the dark mystery of the bayou as a 100-year flood, a malicious murder, and a most unusual Mardi Gras converge at the Crozat Plantation B&B.

It's Mardi Gras season on the bayou, which means parades, pageantry, and gumbo galore. But when a flood upends life in the tiny town of Pelican, Louisiana - and deposits a body of a stranger behind the Crozat Plantation B&B - the celebration takes a decidedly dark turn. The citizens of Pelican are ready to laissez les bon temps rouler - but there's beaucoup bad blood on hand this Mardi Gras.

Maggie Crozat is determined to give the stranger a name and find out why he was murdered. The post-flood recovery has delayed the opening of a controversial exhibit about the little-known Louisiana Orphan Train. And when a judge for the Miss Pelican Mardi Gras Gumbo Queen pageant is shot, Maggie's convinced the murder is connected to the body on the bayou.

Does someone covet the pageant queen crown enough to kill for it? Could the deaths be related to the Orphan Train, which delivered its last charges to Louisiana in 1929? The leads are thin on this Fat Tuesday - and until the killer is unmasked, no one in Pelican is safe.

Love the story, but you need a different narrator

This series deserves someone who has read the first book and knows it's Peli-CAN, Louisiana. AND don't read Cajun dialogue in that fake, Parisian accent. Ugh. If you can overlook those issues, the story and characters are great.

Some really dumb parts!

Why would you throw a cast iron pot away because a dog licked it? Makes me wonder about the author. I don't want to wonder about the author, I just want to listen to semi-pleasant drivel while I decorate 20 dozen damn cookies.

Keeps me chuckling!

I do enjoy these stories. They are so different from how I was raised in Minnesota, and as a missionary child in So. America. I love learning new things, so I often stop the story to look up meanings and research the history spoken of. I am looking forward to the next book!

Fun who done it

Dont be fooled by thinking the characters and story are light fun and entertaining because the plot plot twists are actually masterfully written into a who done it mystery the like I have not enjoyed in years.

Can't wait to start the next book!

I love this series. I really enjoyed this book in particular. The narrator is excellent and I find myself swept into the lives of the characters and the latest mystery. I have already purchased the next two books! I would definitely recommend this series!

This is an entertaining cozy mystery with a well written plot and engaging characters. The one thing I don't like about this book is that Maggie is so smart through out the story but makes a really stupid mistake towards the end. When will she learn? Other than that, I enjoyed listening to it.
