આ નવલકથા વાલા પટેલના પુત્ર કાળુ અને ગાલા પટેલની પુત્રી રાજુની પ્રેમ કથા છે. તેઓ એકબીજાને પ્રેમ કરે છે અને લગ્ન કરવા ઇચ્છે છે, પરંતુ નસીબજોગે બંનેના લગ્ન અન્ય સાથે નક્કી થાય છે. આ પ્રેમ કથાની સાથે પન્નાલાલ પટેલે ૧૯૦૦ના દાયકામાં પડેલા છપ્પનિયા દુષ્કાળથી અસરગ્રસ્ત ખેડૂતોના જીવનનું વર્ણન કર્યું છે. નવલકથાનો અંત વરસાદના પ્રથમ બિંદુ સાથે થાય છે, જે ભયંકર દુષ્કાળના અંતનું સૂચન કરે છે. Manvi Ni Bhavai tells the love story of Kalu, son of Vala Patel, and Raju, daughter of Gala Patel. They love each other and want to marry, but they are betrothed to other people.
